We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sylvia Walker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sylvia, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
As a survivor of Domestic Violence I wanted to provide fashion that would make women feel good about themselves. I took a 1200 income tax check and used it to secure a location and start up cost in 2012.
Sylvia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the fashion industry mainly to help ladies enhance their self esteem. People would always compliment me on my clothes so I decided to turn it into a business. My goal was to improve the overall appearance of women with different body frames and boost their confidence.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on Social Media by posting models wearing my clothing line in my living room. I started with just a few likes and online friends and it grew from there. My advice to anyone wanting to build a strong social media presence would be to remain persistent.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The source of new clients for me has been social media marketing and word of mouth.
