Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sylvia Tutt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sylvia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
As a Life Insurance Specialist it is my job to educate clients on their options and to help guide them to the best product possible based on their age, build, medical conditions, etc. Last year I was able to help a young man who is a diabetic obtain coverage after being denied from multiple other carriers. This was my first client success story for a case that had previously been denied. It was so rewarding to be able to contact the family and inform them their life insurance policy was approved. This family will no longer have to worry about coming up with the funds for a funeral because they were able to get covered with life insurance.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Sylvia Tutt and I am from Walterboro, South Carolina. I currently reside in West Columbia with my husband and three daughters aged 19, 12, and 7. I currently work full-time for the state of South Carolina, own a braiding salon, and I run a virtual Life Insurance Agency. I joined the insurance industry again in February 2023 partnering with Chosen Agency. At the time I was looking for an additional stream of income that wouldn’t take me away from my home and family so this opportunity seemed great. I knew the value of life insurance because my mom always taught us about it early in life. I was familiar with the products because I owned them. Chosen Agency isn’t an independent life insurance agency we are a broker. What that means is we are the connection between the client and the carrier (e.g., Mutual of Omaha, Foresters Financial, etc.). We help clients by protecting their financial future so their family isn’t left with raising money for a funeral or having to sell the family home after the breadwinner has passed away. We educate our clients on the benefits of life insurance and cater the life insurance policy to each clients budget. We are different from other companies because we aren’t looking to sign every client up for a $100 dollar policy. If a client can only afford a $25 policy then that is what we will offer them. We always tell clients the best life insurance policy is the one that you’re going to keep. I’m very proud because in my first year in the industry I’ve graduated from an Elite Course Entrepreneur University, I’ve completed courses to become a Certified Closer. With this certification I am able to help train new agents on the team and help them learn and grow in their business. I have a team of mentees in eight different states and am actively looking for more agents to join my team. I am licensed in 13 different states and looking to serve clients in all 50 states. I want everyone to know that life insurance is affordable and there are options for everyone’s budget. Parents need life insurance on their children (both minor and adult) and children need life insurance on their parents. Death is inevitable and we all will face it some day, so I encourage everyone to make sure their family will be able to grieve properly without the struggles of coming up with $10,000-$20,000 in a week. We always tell clients, “it’s easier to pay $50 a month than come up with $20,000 in a week”.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I would say 95% of my clients have all been referrals from family, friends, and past clients. I don’t do any cold-calling or door knocking. My business is based solely on word of mouth and referrals. I also brand myself on social media and have connected with clients that way. I also seek partnerships with other professionals to receive referrals and also send referrals to those partners.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’m big on being honest about who you are and just being authentically you. I show up everyday as Sylvia. I focus on helping others and being selfless. I’m big on educating my community and sharing information that I learn. I share my successes as well as my struggles with my social media audience. My growth as a Life Insurance & Retirement Specialist is displayed in my conversations and information I share.
