We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sylvia Liu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sylvia below.
Sylvia, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I had wanted to become an artist since I can remember, at a very young age. One of my early memories is always entering the seasonal coloring contests at the local grocery market and winning some candy.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I enjoy doing a variety of artistic and aesthetic styles. I consider myself pretty versatile and enjoy learning new things in general. I never felt I had one specific style and more enjoy collaborating and creating something that is specific and makes sense for the project itself.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part I appreciate is when I have the opportunity to work with much more talented or different creatives than myself. I enjoy learning about other people and their perspectives, I draw a lot of inspiration and motivation from working with others. I value genuine social relationships a lot, it’s like getting to know the world more through others which I think is really nice.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I won’t go into details but most of my private life has been built around the responsibility of helping my family since I was pretty young, both emotionally and financially. This wasn’t easy for me to ever feel personally free creatively, my career and perspective is mostly based on working hard, learning, and continually moving forward. Although difficult, I think my experience has been valuable for me to become very patient, connect and empathize with others which has opened up a lot more life lessons that I could’ve imagined.
