We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sylvia Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sylvia below.
Alright, Sylvia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I studied photojournalism in college and began my career as a photographer under my maiden name, Sylvia Reyes Photography. My last name has always held deep personal meaning. It connects me to my dad, who passed away from cancer during my senior year of high school, and it serves as an outward link to my Mexican heritage, something that is not always visible in my appearance as someone who is multiracial. My dad was my biggest motivator, and in his honor, I named my first professional camera after his nickname, Chuy.
“Reyes” means “kings” in Spanish. When I expanded into event planning and creative services, I wanted to continue honoring my dad and my maiden name. In Spanish, “reina” means “queen,” and that connection felt perfect. I modified the spelling to pay tribute to my maiden name. When you work with me, I want everything I create for you to shine like the royalty you are. My goal is to help you craft moments that become lifelong, joy-filled memories.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My career in events began in college, where I planned campus events and quickly discovered a passion for creating meaningful experiences that bring people together. After graduating, I continued building my skills in the professional workforce, and eventually returned to school for my master’s in Higher Education Administration. At the university level, I focused on planning events and supporting students as they navigated their higher education journey. This experience shaped my approach to my personal business: I bring the same care, guidance, and attention to detail I offered students to every client I work with.
I offer full-service event planning and creative support, helping clients turn ideas into seamless, memorable experiences. What sets me apart is my ability to not only conceptualize events, manage logistics, and coordinate vendors, but also personally curate many of the creative elements that make an event unique. From photography and design to décor and branding, I ensure that each element is intentional, polished, and reflective of the client’s vision.
I recognize that every client has a different style of involvement. Some want to take the lead on their events, while others prefer to be completely hands-off. To accommodate this, I offer three levels of investment: one where clients manage most of the work and I provide support for areas they’re unsure of, one where we collaborate closely and I guide them through the process, and one where they can leave every detail in my trusted hands.
My creative philosophy is rooted in storytelling and intentionality. I believe every event, no matter the size, has a story to tell and an opportunity to create lasting memories. I focus on the details that matter most, blending practicality with artistry to ensure that each experience feels thoughtfully designed and uniquely personal. Whether it’s through visual elements, interactive experiences, or careful planning, my goal is to create events that evoke emotion, celebrate my clients’ stories, and leave a lasting impression.
I prioritize building relationships, fostering trust and communication, and maintaining a foundation of strong project management and logistics. I believe everything in life can be an event. Events spark inspiration and can become life-long memories. My goal is to create experiences that feel effortless, joyful, and memorable.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Most of my new clients come through word of mouth. I take pride in creating memorable experiences and delivering exceptional service, and it is incredibly rewarding when clients are confident enough in my work to recommend me to others. I have also learned the importance of building bridges. It has been amazing to witness the power of connections firsthand, as the concepts of six degrees of separation and three degrees of influence truly come to life in my work. You never know who knows whom or how that connection may impact you as a business owner.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing everything come to fruition. There is something truly magical about watching an idea transform into a tangible experience that brings joy to others. I still remember a lesson from college while planning an event. I was told to always take a step back in the middle of an event and soak in the experience, to see the magic that had been created. There will always be chaos and a long to-do list when planning events, but it is important to find time to appreciate what has been accomplished and the impact it has on others. That feeling of seeing all the pieces come together and knowing you have created something meaningful is what makes the work so fulfilling.
