We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sylvia Green a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sylvia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
Almost 3yrs ago I decided to launch my radio station. It was very important to me that we helped independent artists and entrepreneurs as much as possible. Our main focus at ON BLAST RADIO, LLC is aiding indie artist and entrepreneurs in sharing their stories, talents, services, etc with the world. These individuals deserve proper acknowledgement and accolades. But not only do we aid them in getting their stories heard we also aid in guiding and teaching through different segments on our platform. Things like how to start a business, music industry tips, and overall life tips. To top this off all of our services are at a very affordable rate because as business owners and music artists we know how expensive running a business and having a music career can be in the early stages.

Sylvia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
On Blast Radio Atlanta is a licensed internet radio station based out of Stone Mountain Georgia that caters to independent artist, entertainers of all kind, entrepreneurs, and anyone who has a story worth sharing. Our goal is to provide quality services that aid and support entertainers and small businesses in reaching a broader audience affordably. We’re embarking on our 3yr anniversary this January. I personally have a 20yr background in music and music business. I’m very passionate about the industry as a whole and making sure that I’m everything I needed when I was really serious about pursuing music. Thats truly my fuel because I know if I would have had the proper people around me I would have had a very solid music career. We all just need someone who believes in us. I intend to spend my career creating, aiding, and representing the underdog. Be that in music and/or business. I can definitely say that our approach to sharing the positive aspects of business and the music industry while still tackling the controversial sides with solutions sets us apart from most internet radio stations. That along with our love and passion for creativity and artistry is what I’d say I’m most proud of. The main thing we want everyone to know is that we do this for ya’ll! This is to bring our community together and create change. Our motto is and forever will be..Building Empires and Changing Lives.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I learned very early in my business that people come and go. You may lose friends, partners (romantic and business), family, and people you thought really wanted to see you win. People will always be there when it’s beneficial to them. Pray, meditate, ask (whatever your thing) for discernment. Everyone who start with you won’t be there with you in the end. Learn to be ok with that. Don’t allow anyone or anything to have control over your vision. The most important thing would be know yourself. When you don’t know yourself anyone can tell you who you are and you’re likely to believe them. Knowing yourself is the first step in confidence. We started with 10-15 interns 3 yrs ago…to date its only my station manger and I. That taught me another lesson. Only the strong survive.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my Station Manager/Business Partner through a facebook friend who was also interested in interning with the station. I did not know back then that we would have accomplished all we have with one another and be so close. He’s turned into another brother and its so refreshing to have people who vibrate on the same frequency as you, who has the same love and passion for the industry, as well. He definitely makes running a station much easier and we wouldn’t be able to accomplish so much without him. He has truly been an asset to the OBR Family. BIG, HUGE shoutout to my brother from another mother Jason Chambliss (@iamjsunc).
