Hi Sylvia, thanks for joining us today. We believe kindness is contagious and so we’d love for you to share with us and our audience about the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
When I first decided to launch out into my business 28 years ago. I didn’t have much money. But I decided to look for a location by faith. I found a building for $280 month. A great location near the local mall. My building was behind a donut shop. The owner Mr. Bull would bring the leftover donuts to my clients. I didn’t have central air or heat. I believe that’s why the price was so affordable! Looking back on that season in my life. I received so many blessings from clients, family and friends! I remember a story that sticks out to me. A single mother of two. Saw what I was trying to accomplish and decided to sow $200 in my business no strings attached! That encouraged me that I made the right decision to leap out on faith!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a wife, mother, influencer, minister and salon owner. After high school graduation my father told me I should attend the local beauty school. He noticed I had a gifting to do hair. I was a cheerleader in high school and on Friday nights before the games I would do our hair. Even though my father notice a pathway I should take. I decided temporarily to choose another one. I decided to attend our local university. As we journey throughout life things become a lot clearer as we experience ups and downs! I hit a roadblock in my life. I wonder what my purpose was. We’ve all been there before. I prayed and got my answer. To be able to do what you love and get paid for it is amazing! Being a business owner you must walk in integrity. Clients are looking for professionalism, discipline and trustworthiness.. In order to have a faithful and consistent clientele you must display these attributes. My specialty is bringing the hair back into a healthy state. I’m known as the “Anointed Hair Doctor!” I specialize in relaxers, natural hair and keratin complex treatments.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After owning a thriving salon for 15 years. My husband received a job offer in a new city. So I had to make a decision to leave my business and clientele behind. That wasn’t easy. Honestly that was quite challenging. Sometimes we get so comfortable and complacent in what’s familiar to us. And we never try or experience new things. Overcoming my fears I decided to launched out! Best decision ever. I found a great salon location and establish a large clientele within two months moving there. What’s so interesting I had to repeat this again two years later. I was so grateful I already had the blueprint on how to launch in a new city.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
We all have to stay open minded and creative! COVID-19 has taught me a lot. During the pandemic business owners had to rethink how we did business. The customers weren’t coming in consistently due to the Covid restrictions. So I started thinking about how I can bring in new streams of income. I love fashion so I decided to sell fun tops, hats and creative dresses. As a business owner we will face different challenges. But I want to encourage you never give up and never lose hope!
