We were lucky to catch up with Syed Mahmood recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Syed thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

The name of our brand is “Uncover Publishing,” which reflects the core philosophy behind our mission. Every book has a cover, and to access the knowledge or content within, one must first “uncover” it by turning the pages. This concept is at the heart of our brand identity.

Currently, Uncover Publishing focuses primarily on publishing activity books such as coloring books and journals. However, our long-term vision extends beyond these genres. Our ultimate goal is to publish books on a wide range of topics, with a commitment to sharing exclusive knowledge and information that is traditionally difficult to find. We aim to empower readers by uncovering valuable insights and ideas that go beyond conventional resources.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My wife, Aziza Faria, and I run our business together. Aziza has always had a strong creative potential and a desire to bring something unique to the marketplace. This led us to develop a line of coloring books for adults, children, and individuals of all ages. She publishes her work under the pen name “Shahi Tukra” on both Amazon and Etsy, and what truly sets us apart is that she hand-draws all the illustrations herself. These bespoke, meticulously crafted designs distinguish our products from the competition.

Recently, I authored and published a book titled *”What’s Keeping Us Broke.”* This book seeks to offer readers enlightening insights into the reasons behind financial struggles, while also providing practical strategies to help them break free from these hardships. Especially in times of financial uncertainty, I believe this book can make a positive impact on people’s lives.

As I’ve mentioned before, our mission is to uncover valuable ideas and insights that bring meaningful and positive change to people’s lives. In addition, we are committed to offering aspiring authors the opportunity to publish their work, particularly those who may not have found such opportunities elsewhere.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?

We sell our products on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Etsy. Both platforms offer a significant advantage in terms of their vast customer bases, which allow us to reach a large audience of potential buyers interested in our products. This exposure is invaluable for our business.

In our experience, Etsy provides more features tailored to sellers, such as the ability to run timed discounts, send curated offers to customers, and utilize coupon codes. Etsy’s seller dashboard offers various tools that help automate business processes, making it easier to manage operations efficiently. Additionally, Etsy provides more detailed insights into our business performance, enabling us to make informed decisions and optimize our strategies.

On the other hand, Amazon offers a distinct benefit by handling the printing of our books and the fulfillment of customer orders. This streamlines our logistics and ensures prompt delivery to customers. Both platforms have unique strengths that add significant value to our business operations.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

I am an avid reader of self-help books, particularly those that nurture and inspire entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years, I have read several books that I strongly recommend to anyone aspiring to become a successful entrepreneur. Some of these key titles include Think and Grow Rich, How to Win Friends and Influence People, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Can’t Hurt Me, and No Excuses!.
The insights and principles outlined in these books have been instrumental in helping me develop the essential qualities needed for entrepreneurship. When embarking on significant endeavors like starting a business, it is crucial to begin on the right footing and maintain focus on the path to sustained growth. These books have greatly contributed to my personal and professional growth, and I often revisit them to deepen my understanding of the invaluable knowledge they provide.
