We recently connected with Sydney Nguyen and have shared our conversation below.
Sydney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How do you think about spending on the little things / small joys when finances are tight?
I believe that when you live in a scarcity mindset, you restrict yourself from living a life of abundance. Abundance in terms of opportunities, health, money, friends & family. So when I think about the expense of coffee, meals, and buying myself small gifts I do my best to not worry about the cost because the act of purchasing these items bring me closer to that abundant mindset that money will always come back to me and that I’m living the life I’ll eventually get to, which is one why I don’t need to worry about these types of purchases, large or small. I also look at these expenses as products of productivity. When I go out to grab a coffee or meal, I’ll use it as an opportunity to get work done. And 10 out of the 10 times I go out for that, it leads to a 2x productive working session. So when I think of these expenses in a long term mindset, not only do I see it as me getting to exercise the life I want, I see it as a way to quicken my productivity & achieve my goals in a much smarter way.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Sydney Nguyen and I’m a YouTuber, a realtor, and I work in marketing! On my YouTube channel, I create self-help videos focused on mindset so that people can become inspired to live out their best life. I am also residential real estate agent where I help home buyers and owners find or sell their homes. And in my marketing role, I’m a UGC content creator and assist brands in establishing their email marketing strategy. What’s unique about myself is that I take great care towards the clients that exemplify my own values: positivity, self-worth, purpose, passion and the desire to build a better world. When I connect my values with brands of similar ethos, the return of the work I put out there is hugely impactful. It makes me proud to say that with every piece of content and marketing deliverable I provide, there is at least one person who becomes inspired to become a better version of themselves. The same goes for real estate; with every new client I work with, I am so proud to work with families and individuals who find purpose in the type of home that they seek, and it inspires me to constantly live with purpose and passion in my many hobbies and careers.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was running my first business, which was a mobile sports app, I imagined it would be a great hit. It was anything but that. For a few years, I felt that its failure defined me as a business owner, but little did I know, the experience was my gateway into content creation and marketing. The endless hours I put into creating Instagram reels and Tiktok videos for my app, led me to become more comfortable in front of the camera and more willing to create videos about topics I care about deeply: mindfulness, self-love, and compassion. The outcome? A growing YouTube channel that hosts a community of like-minded people, and a marketing business with a roster of clients that I’m proud to work with as they inspire me everyday. So although my failure in my first business venture did not turn out as well as I hoped, it taught me the important lesson that there is opportunity in every situation and that your perception of an outcome is much stronger than the outcome itself.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
One of my client’s is in the art industry, specifically art therapy. When I first began working with him, he was struggling to gain new clientele. Once I stepped in and performed an audit, I was able to identify email marketing opportunities that would funnel in new clients from Instagram and Facebook, platforms he seldomly used. After devising and executing on a marketing strategy, we successfully gained a large number of new students to sign up for my client’s most popular service. Ever since then, the amount of trust my client has in me has skyrocketed, and has allowed us to experiment in email marketing tactics that upsell individuals to his higher-ticketed services, which have greatly helped his business expand and generate more revenue. This remains my favorite marketing story because not only did it help my client grow into a larger consumer market, it proved the power of nurturing and patience, while challenging me to experiment across different marketing strategies and platforms.
