We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sydney Kennett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sydney thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents have supported me 100% of the way. I am so greatful for them and how much they’ve helped me along my journey. When our parents had my sister and me, they didnt change their lives completely. They started bringing us on all the adventures they went on. We were skiing by two years old, camping every weekend and making memories I’ll have for a lifetime. Our parents helped us out anyway they could and i cannot thank them enough.

Sydney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Sydney Kennett, I’m 16 years old, and I’m a professional Indoor Skydiver aka body flyer. I’ve been flying since I was 8 years old and my dad inspired me to get into the sport. He was a skydiver and wanted to introduce his kids into the skydiving world, since you can’t skydive in the US alone until you are 18, indoor skydiving was next best option and I immediately fell in love. I am now 16 and it has been a crazy ride. I have traveled the World competing for the USA and have won may titles. This year I was supposed to go to the World Cup in Slovakia, but an injury has kept me from competing this year. So hopefully next year, I will be back to represent the USA and Indoor Skydiving.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect that I’ve gotten out of indoor skydiving is having young kids and even adults come up to me and tell me I inspired them. It’s my ultimate goal to inspire as many people as I can and spread the word about this sport. Seeing as the sport is just growing, it is super cool to be at the forefront and watch it evolve.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have 2 goals- 1 is to be the best body flyer I can be and maybe even win a World Title (I have won 4 US National titles and taken 2nd & 3rd at Worlds). And my second goal is to spread the word about the sport as much as possible and teach everyone about it. I really try to get it out there on social media so people can understand what Indoor Skydiving is. I really enjoy talking to people after I fly and explaining that this is a sport and there are many different disciplines. My favorite is Freestyle- which consists of choreographing my own routine and then it is judged on creativity, difficulty, and technique.
