We were lucky to catch up with Sydney & Kayla Williams & Gilliam recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Sydney & Kayla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?

We actually get the most questions about our name since it is the most eccentric I would say. But we got the name Twobrokecollegestudents because we met in our freshman year of college in Miami Florida in 2019 and We were broke and wanted to start a business. I always find it intriguing almost hilarious that people assume it’s for some creative message.

Sydney & Kayla , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

We are an all natural body care company None of our products have more than six ingredients. We pride ourselves on giving our customers strong scents, Without the harsh chemicals that are going to most body care products. Since our products don’t contain any preservatives they do you have a shorter of shelve life. All of our product wrappers are biodegradable or recycled Materials.

When creating the company we wanted to ensure that the average shopper could afford our products so none of our products are over $20. 5% of our sales also go to women in college pursuing beauty and fragrance. All of our current employees are college students and as we grow we want to strive to keep the internship program for college students and every department from finances to our creative directing process.

The thing that I’m most proud of in our company is that we are constantly innovating and that is why we’re adamant in using young voices.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

Starting I business in the mist of COVID it was a blessing and a curse I would say because a lot of our start up capital came from grants for small businesses during Covid.She still does all of these things today.

How’d you meet your business partner?

Honestly I can tell the story 1 million times and never get sick of it. My business partner and I met on a find my roommate app. We waited to the last minute to find roommates for college. The only options for roommates was the girl who said that everyone in her dorm had to be to bed by 8:30 because of her premed major. Or the girl who sacrificed small animals to her God in her room and each other. So we decided to go with the best option and pick each other Even though we didn’t seem like we got along, we clicked instantly my roommate showed me how to do make up and to build my confidence and to ran with me on dream. She still does all of these things today.
