We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sydney Jackson-Clockston. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sydney below.
Sydney, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
As a child, I used to daydream often. I spent time thinking about what I wanted to be when I grew up, what new places I would get to travel and visit, and what foods I would try. Unfortunately, over time I feel out of touch with my imagination after being jaded by life. Since becoming a business owner in 2019, I started getting in touch with my imagination again when I was asked during a session with my business coach at the time, “What do you hope your legacy will be?”
At the time, I felt like a deer caught in headlights. I had never thought about my legacy. Before, I thought building a legacy was just for the wealthy, rich, and famous. I’m proud to say that in the past three years, I have learned that everyone leaves a mark on this world and what that legacy is up to the individual.
My legacy is to be a steward to myself, my family, clients, and the community. I do this simply by showing up and showing up with a purpose. I believe one of the best ways to build a strong community is by connecting with youth. I have done this by being a mentor to young adults through Colorado Young Leaders. Most recently, my partner’s family needed us to step up and do kinship for our 11-year-old niece.
In the future, I will have the funds to provide travel grants to young adults. Travel changed my life. I remember the day I got my first passport at 16 and how it made me feel. There was this freedom knowing that I could go [almost] anywhere in the world. Once I got to Italy and Spain, my bubble of egocentrism was shattered. I want other kids to have the opportunity to experience the world, challenge themselves outside of their comfort zone, and grow.
My legacy is one of empowering others. Planting seeds and overtime watching some of those seeds sprout and bloom.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I always feel like the “About Me” section is a loaded question.
I am an Entrapanuer and CEO. In 2019 I made one of the best decisions to quit my full-time job. I did this to build the career of my dreams and work on healing my soul from years of colonization in the workplace. Through a turn of events, COVID 19, I launched Citrine Unlimited LLC in 2020.
Citrine Unlimited LLC. is a multi-faceted organization that offers Coaching, Consulting, Training, Public Speaking, and Retreat Design. We cover a variety of topics and take on custom requests. Notably, with all of our work, Citrine Unlimited LLC. is committed to impacting the lives of individuals and groups that cause transformation.
I also work part-time training entrepreneurs through a non-profit called Rocky Mountain Micro-Finance Institution (RMMFI). Through RMMFI, I have had the pleasure to train over 50 entrepreneurs since January 2020. I love seeing folks have awe ha moments.
I am still doing self-work to push past the thought that sharing my accomplishments is not braggadocious but just letting my light shine. So here are some of the good works I’ve been up to:
– Citrine Unlimted LLC. is hosting its first Body Positive Pool Party in July 2022 for Women and Femmes.
– In the fall of 2020, Citrine Held its first woman empowerment retreat called Passion Over Perfection Retreat.
– One of my 1-2-1 clients gained the confidence to ask for a promotion and raise. Both were received, increasing her income by 15%.
– In April 2020, I will be speaking at my Almamater, Colorado State University, to 200+ juniors and seniors on “Professionalism in the Workplace.”
– Since 2020, Citrine Unlimited LLC. has partnered with over 25 Women-Owned, BIPOC Owned, and/or LGBTQIA+ Owned small businesses.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
I believe that automation is one of the best ways to free up time and increase income. I currently offer several self-guided (asynchronous) courses online, along with a t-shirt shop. It’s awesome going to sleep and waking up with funds in the business account due to an automated sale. Automation has also allowed me to reach more folks due to distance or budget constraints.
My biggest recommendation for self-guided classes is to get started somewhere, even if it’s recording yourself off of Zoom or your cellphone. As the money flows in, you can reinvest it to update your product with embellishments—Rember Passion Over Perfection.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I am starting a new extension to Citrine Unlimited LLC. This new business is being co-created with another small business owner Otisa Eids, owner of Otisa Eads LLC. I feel truly blessed to have met Otisa. In mid-2019, I went to a networking event Women on The Rise hosted to showcase Women-Owned Businesses. I was still at my job and desperately ready to move on and start my own business. Internally I’m an introvert, and I had to force myself to get out of the car and go into the venue to start networking.
At the first booth I came up to, I saw Otisa supporting one of her clients. We instantly connected and just got along so well. We exchanged info, and I kept walking around the event. I kept pushing myself to meet others and pass out my new business cards.
A few weeks later, Otisa and I got together for happy hour, and the rest is history.
We are very similar but different. We both connect strongly with our values, but Otisa shines in business areas that are a challenge for me and vice versa. I feel very fortunate that I met Otisa as a business owner first, and then our professional relationship grew into a friendship. This experience made the decision to work on projects together, and now this new business venture a no-brainer.
I’m not ready to share all the details of what we are doing yet but make sure to follow us on social so you are first to know when we make the announcement!
