We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sydney Hansen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sydney below.
Alright, Sydney thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve known all my life since I was 7 years old that music was always going to be a big part of my life. I had been taking voice and guitar lessons and fell in love with it. I started taking it more serious when I was 13. This is when I started to write some decent songs for only being a young girl. So I decided to enter myself in a songwriting competition in my hometown of Duluth, MN. This was a contest at a local coffee shop ‘Wussows’. I was nervous at the time because although I was fortunate to already have some onstage experience singing covers, this was my first time ever showcasing my own original music. After I sang my songs I won the ‘audience choice award’ and as a young artist I took any validation and encouragement I received and turned it into confidence. From then on I kept writing and I believe that those type of experiences helped me get to where I am today. Writing your own music can be vulnerable and still is for me sometimes now, but when you are a little uncomfortable that is when the magic happens. Some of my best songs came from a deep place in my heart and I believe that resonates with anyone listening.
Sydney , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As I said I started getting into music at a young age and was fortunate to earn many opportunities throughout the years onstage. I put together a couple bands in Minnesota and have had a blast playing anytime anywhere as often as possible. It was a few years ago when I started to expand to different states – primarily Minnesota, Wisconsin, Tennessee. I started making my way into the music industry around 2021 when I met my management team as well as my producer Kent Wells (Dolly Parton’s longtime producer and guitarist). Now I am living in Nashville and enjoying the life of writing, recording, performing, and making new connections. I am currently working on a 15 song project with my producer and continuously creating more. I have been known for having a low sultry tone. A song that I am most proud of that is out right now is my single “Somebody’s Nobody” which is on all streaming platforms. I also have a new song “For Better”, coming out on March 24th so stay tuned. I am just waiting for that breakout moment and let me tell you I am ready!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think that the most rewarding aspect of being an artist when it comes down to it is the reaction we get from a crowd. I love the feeling of being onstage and knowing that people are enjoying what we’re playing is the best feeling!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think my biggest goal/mission is to become well known so I can spread my music to whoever needs to hear it. Music is such a powerful thing. It can be uplifting or help someone feel words that they wouldn’t be able to put together themselves. I have so many artists that I look up too and I would love to be that person for more people some day!
