We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sydney Ferris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sydney, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
When I was younger, the bounce house industry only had one option, the primary color bounce house. As our world has changed into “Instagrammable parties,” and photos are the main takeaway, people want to have something unique. Having a white bounce at your event, is like having a unicorn. If having white bounce house isn’t enough, we have all the popular party trends. The Bounce Bash offers the full party package! We are a one-stop shop for all your party needs. We make beautiful balloons garlands, backdrops, marquee letters, and more. We make it easy for people to pick and choose what they want for their party needs. We can make their vision come to life for a picture-perfect party!
Sydney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Sydney- owner of The Bounce Bash, I grew up in Las Vegas where my parents owned the first limo & party bus companies- so I grew up in a party setting. I remember my mom would always go crazy with the balloons, decorations, and streamers for my birthday parties & I think that’s where my love for party décor came from. I always loved the “Wow” factor when someone walked into the room after everything was set up. I mean who doesn’t love a good mouth-drop moment!
I always loved planning and being involved in the party process so when I saw an all-white bounce house for the first time I knew I wanted to be a part of it. After lots of research and figuring things out, we have 5 different styles of modern bounce houses, we provide beautiful organic balloon garlands and our marquee letters can light up any party.
I wanted to be the one-stop shop for the mom who wanted it all or just wanted something different for their kid’s birthdays. Whether you want the whole party package or just one of our options we got you!
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
We were 5 months into our business, we just started to offer balloons as an addition to the bounce houses and I really wanted to start expanding the balloons to other places besides the bounce house.
One day, this client called, wanted a bounce house with balloons, and asked if we did balloons in other places. I told her yes, we can do that even though I have never really installed balloons anywhere else. I really wasn’t even confident in my balloon talent yet, but I was going to figure it out. She didn’t just want 8-10 balloons set aside, she wanted helium balloons in the pool and an entire balloon wall over marquee letters (how the heck am I going to attach balloons to letters!?), I remember when I saw the picture she sent me my first thought was “If I can pull this off, I can do anything” I started learning everything about balloons, bought classes, and started learning from the best. She trusted me, and I wasn’t going to let her down. I told her it was no problem and boom- my biggest event yet, and I was pumped, and nervous.
I knew this was my biggest job to date- I probably blew up like 500 balloons for this party, it was insane. I get to this giant beautiful house, set up the bounce house and balloons, and then to the “hard part” but as I was doing it I realized, it’s balloons- we can always add more or change it, we can always figure it out. It turned out beautiful, she absolutely loved it and it all worked out.
So my point to this story is fake it until you make it baby because no one really knows what they’re doing, and that job really gave me the confidence to get me where I am today.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I think social media of course but the people is what can make or break you. Nowadays it’s hard to find good customer service and that’s something I really take pride in. I always respond as quickly as I can. People want instant gratification and if you take too long to reply, they might have moved on. I think it’s important to be open, be fun, and most importantly be reliable. Word of mouth is huge, and if the client feels like the process was seamless, easy, and awesome they will tell other people and word of mouth spreads quickly. I am very thankful for my clients who have recommended me to others because that is very helpful with a growing clientele.
