We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sydney Chase. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sydney below.
Hi Sydney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear your thoughts about making remote work effective.
Currently when it comes to my business I mainly do it all myself. I eventually want to grow it into a full team, but being able to do it all from home for now does make it so much easier for me especially being a mom. I’ve bought all the supplies needed to fill the bottles of oil, as well as everything needed to package them. I have made an account and bought a machine to make and print my own shipping labels as well, so truly everything is remote. There hasn’t been any downfalls for my business personally, and my what I love most is being able to work from home with my little one. I’m so thankful I’m able to work remotely and it’s not something I’d take for granted.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Sydney & I am the owner of Bodied By Chase, a cosmetics business currently offering upscale scented body oil. I offer our signature scent, with the option of body glitter or without. Smelling good has always been a priority of mine, and I think should be one of others as well. It’s such a great compliment to receive, while this product also nourishes your skin at the same time. It’s a two for one product, and a three for one if you go with the glitter option! I’m really proud to say this company I built from the ground up, from making the name, designing the bottles and boxes, making the signature scent, everything. A lot of people seem to ask if it is a product I was just “given” to promote as mine, and as I continue to grow my company I would love for those to realize that’s not the case. No matter big or small, I think we should all be proud of something we truly built ourselves.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of my friends now has a very successful company, however at the start of mine wanted to let me know it isn’t always easy and the rise of your business isn’t always as fast as you hope. His current numbers are currently matching major brands all around the world, yet at the start (first few years) it wasn’t always like that. A few items would sell, profit would be little to none and it seemed like that would be how it stayed. Continuing to focus in, and take power & pride of your business will eventually ensure your success within the space. Hearing this at the start of mine, I made sure to not be discouraged no matter the outcome of my launch. Positivity really goes a long way, and within this industry it’s much needed.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A way I interpret this question would really come down to those you think will support you before you launch. This is something I’m completely ok with now, but at the start truly believed certain individuals would really support my brand before it became something popular to do. A lot of people may support from a far, or have you believe they support you but truth is many don’t want you to be too successful. It’s something I think a few people know, but not many believe until it happens. This isn’t something that should make you upset or bitter, yet something that causes you to work harder. Those whom truly support you, you’ll notice and that’s what really matters; those you can count on even in the very beginning when no one even knows anything about your business. Let success speak for itself.
