We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sydneigh Blue a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydneigh, thanks for joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
I am the youngest in my family, and I have three older brothers who are all creatives and successful in their own right. People often ask my parents how they raised four talented and creative young adults. We all turned out the way we did because our parents always supported our dreams and allowed us to explore our talents outside of sports and school. Throughout my childhood, I often heard stories from my peers about how their parents wouldn’t allow them to join certain activities or programs because they didn’t align with the parent’s vision for the child. I never got that feeling from my parents. Halfway through my sophomore year in high school, there was a situation where we needed to move houses quickly. I also ran track and cheered my whole life, and my mom knew I was unhappy with the cheerleading and track program at the school I was attending. She allowed me to choose if I wanted to stay at the same school or transfer, and she was willing to move to the district I chose as long as it was within reason. I decided to transfer to Cedar Hill High School, where all three of my brothers graduated, to be a part of that legacy and because I knew I’d have a better athletic experience. The fact that my mom considered my feelings in that very rough situation will always mean a lot to me. She could’ve easily chosen where we would move to next or made me stay at the school where I wasn’t happy with the athletic programs, but instead, she considered my feelings before making a quick decision.
My parents were also hustlers. We weren’t rich, but I always saw them working to make it happen! Both my mother and father had small businesses and side hustles of their own when I was growing up, which may have unconsciously inspired my decision to become an entrepreneur. Whether it was riding with my dad to train one of his personal training clients or helping my mom with a photoshoot for her skincare business, I could see that hustle up close and personal.
I appreciate my parents greatly for exposing my siblings and me to the arts, entreprenuership, and sports. I appreciate them constantly pushing us and supporting our wild and crazy dreams. I always felt loved and like my feelings were considered. Whenever it’s my time to become a parent, I want to expose my kid(s) to everything I can and intentionally support anything they may become interested in because I believe that’s what positively impacted my life and career.

Sydneigh, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was always interested in hair. I learned how to do my hair when I was young, and I became good at it, so my friends would ask me to do theirs. I used to take clients after school when I didn’t have cheer or track practice or on the weekends when I was free. Going into college, wigs were becoming trendy again, and I decided to learn how to make them by hand. I would make wigs for my college cheer teammates and other ladies around campus, eventually leading to me making wigs for many women in Baton Rouge, LA, and around the country.
Over the years, I transitioned from a hairstylist to a wig maker, and the quality of my hair and wigs became better and better. Today, I specialize in custom, glue-less wigs made by machine that are comfortable, easy to install, and long-lasting. My customers can customize almost every detail about their wig, including the wig cap size, length, color, parting, etc., which is excellent for women who live in areas with limited hairstylists. My customers are also women who suffer from hair loss or alopecia and are looking for ready-to-wear wigs that will last long and feel secure when wearing them.
I am most proud of how far Wig Life has come since I started the business. I never imagined making and shipping wigs to women across the country. I am grateful that these women trust me with their money and allow me to create their dream wigs. I love receiving reviews and pictures of my customers in their Wig Life Units.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Anyone who knows me knows that I always keep my hair done. Whether styled in a wig, braids, or even a ponytail, I ensure it always looks its best. As the owner of a wig company, I always knew that it was essential to be my brand ambassador because I am a walking representation of my business. Posting content like wig try-on tutorials and styling videos has also helped me build my reputation within the wig market. I show my audience that the Wig Life is not as complicated as it seems, and with wigs, you can easily change up your look without going to the hair salon.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Social media has been my biggest asset in growing my clientele. I use social media as a tool to make money rather than only to see what everyone else is doing in their social lives. I have grown my clientele by posting helpful and educational content frequently and consistently. Even if someone is not ready to buy a wig when they see my posts on TikTok or Instagram, they will think of Wig Life when considering buying a wig because I am consistently on their timelines.
