We recently connected with Sydnee Floyd and have shared our conversation below.
Sydnee , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
From the age of 4, Sydnee’s passion for helping others has only grown. From helping her mom take care packages to young children for Christmas to donating her clothes for her friends. Sydnee’s passion was sparked at a young age. Now at 16 years-old, she has only continued her passion of helping others and making a difference in her community. From being featured by Country Superstar, Dierks Bentley, in his music video Woman Amen and seeing hands-on the need in her community, Sydnee started Jumbled Dreams-Changing Lives at 13 years-old to inspire others to make a change in their community by finding their passions through various volunteer opportunities. Since beginning Jumbled Dreams in 2018, Sydnee has raised over 100,000 pounds of food, 50,000 toiletries, over 15,000 articles of clothing, and 20,000 dollars to help her community. She has also partnered with over 30 organizations across the world to spread the mission of Jumbled Dreams. In the past 2 years alone, Sydnee has had the opportunity to start an Anti-bullying and Suicide Awareness Podcast called Positive Dreams Project, in partnership with Positive Change Project, in order to spread awareness about key issues like bullying, suicide, and mental health. She has also a second podcast called Let’s Talk Dreams with the goal of sharing different nonprofit/individual inspiring stories throughout the world. Through all of this, Sydnee is blessed every single day to be apart of a change much larger than her.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As my bio mentions, I grew up in a small town in Eastern Kentucky. Where I lived, there was so much need and so many of my friends did not have enough food or clothing to make it through the week! I started sneaking food and clothes to my closest friends, and eventually my mom caught me, but we had an open conversation about the needs of the people around me. From there I started volunteering wherever I could, however many organizations have age limitations on their volunteers. Because of this, I started Jumbled Dreams to combat the age limits, the nerves, and the narrative that you cannot make a difference because you cannot write a million-dollar check.
Now five years later we have been fortunate enough to raise 100,000 pounds of food, 50,000 toiletries, over 15,000 articles of clothing, and 20,000 dollars to help the community. Jumbled Dreams has also partnered with over 30 organizations across the world to spread the mission of Jumbled Dreams. Also, we have been able to start two podcasts: Let’s Talk Dreams and Positive Dreams Project to raise awareness for suicide prevention, bullying, and other changemakers in the community.
What I want you all to know, to whoever is reading this:
Dream a little dream, you have the power to make a difference in someone’s life today, and that person needs you. Open the door for someone, check in on a loved one or friend, volunteer at a local food bank, donate your unwanted clothes to a local nonprofit, repost a nonprofits information on your social media. That makes a difference. It changes lives. Conversations, hope, and dreaming is what is going to change this world, and that begins with you.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The nonprofit community is something that I am forever grateful for! However, it is really hard to gain a community in the nonprofit world sometimes. I am forever thankful to Dierks Bentley and his fan club DB congress for jumpstarting Jumbled Dreams and for helping us change the world one person at a time. But more than that, it is all about having conversations. One simple conversation can change someone’s whole life and inspire them to make a difference, because now they know they can. I am always inspired by the conversations that I have every day, and each one makes a mark on my life. The jumbled Dreams community has grown because of those open conversations with friends, family, communities, and the world through social media. Never give up on your dreams and share your truth. Those conversations are the ones that change the world.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My cofounder is my mom! Without her, I would not be able to accomplish anything, she is the one who has believed in me. She is the one who helps plan events, apply for grants, work with our partners, and create those meaningful conversations with others. She does not get enough recognition. So for me, this question is an easy way to recognize her for all her accomplishments and help! I am forever thankful to her for believing in my dreams and aspirations and never letting me down! My mom will always be the one constant in my life, and because of that Jumbled Dreams is successful!
