We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful SweetKay . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with SweetKay below.
Hi SweetKay , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I took my first look into the creative/artistic world back in March of 2020. At that time I was on the journey of finding myself and trying to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. My make up artist back in February had told me that I should look into modeling. I laughed because I didn’t think that that would be something that would be interested in or even great it. I look back and laugh because here I am three years later living out a dream I never even dreamed and killing it.

SweetKay , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was introduced to the plus industry by another model name, Ms. Yvette. I was friends with one of her family member who introduced me to her. She provided me with insight on how to start my journey to become a model. In a couple of months later I went to my first casting call. I was super nervous when I pulled up because it was so many beautiful women waiting to be selected. I just knew that I wasn’t gonna be so late that because I was so inexperience. I didn’t even know how to runway walk at the time, but I force myself to go through with the casting call and just take it as a teaching experience to be prepared for the next one. I remember sitting at home one day and getting a call from the brand telling me that I had been selected as one of the models and I was super excited. I didn’t even know what to say. I was grateful that someone saw something in me that I didn’t even see myself. I soon learned that the modeling industry can be very competitive and messy at time but you just finds what works best for you and the brand you’re trying to build. I have been with the Arita Lashon brand since day one. As the the years pass with the coaching and proper guardians from the brand, I have became to be more confidence within myself and my modeling career . I think it was one of the best decisions that I have made in life. I pray that this modeling will soon open open up more doors for my as I venture off into the podcast world.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Build an audience on social media may be easy for some people but not all people. I tried to build my audience by creating different concepts and putting it out there. I did learn that you have to be careful what you put on social media because you don’t want to attract the wrong people to your page. I want my page to be a part of the body positivity movement. I wanted to show women’s of all sizes that it’s OK for us to wear what we want to wear or be comfortable in the skin that we are in. I use a lot of hashtags that cater to the plus size community and body positivity community.. I usually try to make sure that I put consent out at least twice a week.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to be a well-known model. I don’t need to be famous. I just need enough people to know me and to know what I stand for and my reasoning behind loving myself and the skin that I am in. I feel like even though society is opening it up more. It’s a plus size world I don’t. I still feel that a lot of body shaming still goes on within the plus size community.
