We recently connected with Swagila and have shared our conversation below.
Swagila, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Just getting started, was one of the biggest risks I’ve taken. I think with anything a lot of people, including myself, are scared to get started because we’re in a time where it seems like everyone is putting out great content, music, ideas, etc., and putting yourself in the mix can feel like being a small fish in a huge pond. It can be extremely intimidating. We are also in an age where success seems overnight and other people being at this high level so fast can hinder new creatives into self-diminishing our confidence to even step our foot through the door. However, I’m a big believer in walking through opportunities that God puts in your life because you can only look at the door so long before it passes. Walking through opportunities may be a lot of hard work or take a big chunk of time but you can’t start building anything until you start taking action. So as of now, I’m just trying my best to walk through my door of opportunity and see where it leads. Risk can hinder your process or can help you light a fire under you to move at a level you never thought possible.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Swagila was thought up one night while me and my roommate Katie were pretending to be rappers in my college dorm room. Yes, we did receive frequent noise complaints….Fast forward 5 years later, Swagila has become a brand that empowers others through the curation of music, fashion, and entertainment.
Born and raised in Houston, TX, and now a Dallas, Tx local, I have always had a passion for music. I started my music journey in the 5th-grade orchestra playing viola then soon transitioning to cello in high school. My curiosity for music has always been there and continues to grow to the point where recently, I produced, recorded, and released my first single “Selfie Tho” and now am looking to break into the DJ mixing scene.
Along with my passion for music, my passion for fashion has always been at the forefront of the Swagila brand. I released multiple versions of merch for my friends before I ever released music, mostly as funny gifts on Christmas for this imaginary brand we always joked about. Now that Swagila is real, I look to expand my love for making creative fashion and share that with everyone I can.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
There are two main things that I strive to do, whether that’s in business or my life. The first is to build a strong community by building relationships that matter. To affect people’s lives and have a positive influence on the people around me is huge.
The second would be to be an encouragement to those same people. What I’ve learned through my journey in this life, is being able to truly connect with other people is so powerful. As someone who has been through a lot and come out on the other side, through God’s grace, I want to share the same joy for life that I have found.
With the brand of Swagila, I want to be able to build the bridge of person-to-person relationships through music and fashion. My hope for Swagila is to develop connections, empower others, and leave an impression that builds people’s souls up.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After college, there was a brief period where I was away from my friends, my family, and pretty much everyone I knew. I was born and raised in Texas but, for my first job, I moved to a different part of the US. That was really hard on me and forced me to realize the importance of having your community and knowing who you are. I’ve been through a lot of different hardships in my life but through that time, with prayer and understanding, was able to build the foundation I needed for my life. This gave me a newfound confidence and peace where I can feel empowered enough to start this brand and explore different levels of who I can be. I want to share this overflow of love, joy, and encouragement to others with Swagila.
