Hi Svetlana, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Yes, people ask us all the time what sets us apart from other studios. The quality of service. We specialize in what’s known as Russian Manicure. This technique is used specifically to improve the health of nails by focusing on cuticle work, using high quality products, and implementing maximum sterilization. We can proudly say that our clients receive high quality services that they would not find in any other studio. For us, it’s quality over quantity.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When I was 14 years old, I saved up to go to a beauty salon for the first time. I got a regular polish manicure. I was not happy with my manicure, but I was too shy to say something. After that experience, I told my mom that I will never go back to another salon. I decided that I would learn how to do nails on my own. My mom senses my interest and told me that I should go to a beauty school. I did not agree at first, but my mom insisted because she knew this was my fate. Finally, I gave in and went to beauty school. There, I saw that people went there to pursue their interests, their real passions. That environment ignited an interest to open up my own beauty school.
Around this time, I moved to the United States. I was not sure what I should be doing and where I should be working. I met a lot of people who would ask me about what I do and what I would like to do. I did not know what to say. One day, I just sat down and thought about what it was that I wanted to do. I returned to the idea of opening up my own beauty school. From that moment on, I told people that I would pursue this interest (and did so more to show people that I was ambitious, rather than an actual goal). People gave me such great feedback that I started thinking about it more seriously. People asked me what I needed to do to achieve this goal. This forced me to look deeper into this, which only further fueled my interest. Ultimately, I decided that I first need to open a nail studio. To do that, I needed to become a nail artist myself to learn all the basics.
The first step was to obtain my license. This meant that I needed to go to beauty school here in the US. As I was doing that, I began doing initial manicures on some friends and acquaintances. Needless to say, it was bad and took too long. I became determined to improve and become the best. I started taking numerous classes to master the Russian Manicure technique. This and more and more practice led to my first client. A friend showed interest and asked me how much it would cost for one manicure. I decided to say $25. This led to another client, who needed a wedding manicure. After my second successful client, my practice took off.
When I moved to San Francisco from New York, I was determined to do so as a nail artist. I rented out a table at a beauty salon and began building my clientele. I worked in San Francisco for five years. Thereafter, my husband and I moved to Charlotte with the goal of opening up a nail salon. Now, I am here and the next step is opening up my beauty school, just as I once dreamed.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Social medial and instagram in particular. This helped me a lot to obtain clientele. Consistency, quality, and responsiveness are key.
