We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Suzie Hinds. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Suzie below.
Suzie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Clothing is a meaning of self-expression, a persons visual representation of our charisma. We present our mood and feelings for the day in our choices of what we wear.
Society has always been influenced through new fashion styles and particular eras in history. It reflects customs, values and morals in society. We all live through our choices of appeal??? or do we. The reality is we tend to present ourselves as a collective reflection of the general society or it’s trends.
From childhood, I delighted in the creative world of fashion. Making Barbie clothes as a self-expression of my inner desires, who I want be when I grew up. Looking back now, I too was influenced by the society I lived in and the decades I lived through.
Now in the world of storytelling, I use Costume Design to tell a character’s characteristics through color and design. Looking into every small nuances, telling the story from their perspective through costume design and being brave enough myself to do the same. My mission is to give us all permission to reflect on who we are as individuals from our fashion. Being bold and standing out in society. Being our authentic self, without society rules. Expressing our personality through our clothing and style.

Suzie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Suzie The CEO of DEVIL PUNK PRODUCTIONS. I’m a creative talent who relishes cinematic grandeur. I embellish my story themes with dramatic flair, including textures, grit and colors – a real mis-en-scene. In all formats of the media industry.
Currently living in Los Angeles, I had lived nearly all my life on the island of Tasmania, which has always been the inspiration for nurturing my creative vessel. With its vast and varied soul of the Land reflex’s throughout my eclectic body of work.
Twenty years ago my artistic talents ventured into the world of storytelling through many mediums of varies industries, Costume, Graphic and Photography Design my main vessels, then six years ago I added Actor/Writer to my repertoire. I have many and varied life experiences to draw upon and over the years have embraced them all putting it into my creative Portfolio.
I bring a compassionate, captivating and soulful edge to the telling of a character and story. I conjure a formidable combination, style to captivate an audience and immerse them into another world.
My storytelling is inclusive and explores the key themes from the point of view of each diverse character. To me, it is critical that we see ourselves reflected through all mediums, documenting our common journeys in a favorable and yet at times, challenging light. When challenges do arrive my years of experiences always ensures I am able to find a solution, however big or small.
I have lived a life of highs and lows embroiled with many twists and turns which fuel my art with the rawness of varied
emotions we all can relate to. My creations are thought provoking, that audiences continue to contemplate long after seeing.
On reflex ions, I’m very proud of all the bodies of work that I have created over the years, within varied media platforms. I have a very diverse Portfolio of work to back it up.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
The “creative mind” — Creativity is the ability to think out the box and come up with innovative solutions. Our counter parts the “non-creative” mind have their strengths as well, they are more organized and follow rules to complete tasks efficiently. Both are important in their own rights.
I’ve lived a very Creative life, I am all aspects of these traits. Have I been misunderstood? Oh yeah!! My first task in the creative process is seeing it. In vivid color, shape and form, the world through a movie in my mind. I then relay this to others, often the vocabulary comes out disconnected, unformed and expressed in a way that may sounds beyond this world. Then my drawing abilities come into play, Mood boards etc.
Ok… need to get a bigger vocabulary for less unusual looks from the non-creative mind of some people! noted!
I guess the biggest misunderstanding between me and the traditional method of ‘sticking to what has already been done’ non-creatives, is my need to different. I think outside of the box, seek out ways of doing things, if one way is not working do another. I’m a risk taker, always open to new experiences and creative adventures. I live to be open-minded, flexible and explore ideas, wherever it may take me…. that’s why I’m now in the most creative film and TV Industry capital of the world…. Los Angeles.
And maybe sometime I like being misunderstood and strange, keeps everyone on their toes!! Even me.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
“Resilience – the ability to adapt to difficult situation.” This links in with the Creative mind, my need to be different, change and evolve into the create person I see in my mind.
So, as I evolve so to does my business. I started my first business in my 20’s, I had just finished my Fashion Design training and started working as a Model and design consultant at a high end Fashion Boutique, where I lived at the time. Showing and designing my own and children’s clothes in modelling articles.
My need to evolve and grow with the available clients and community was always at the forefront of my creative mind.
As community needs changed so did my business. Always staying under the same IBN number, (Australian registration) the name of the business always changed. Describing the current services offered.
The business was always taking different directions and turns, though always under the banner of creativity. Over the years I have offered services of design in fashion, scrapbooking, patchwork and quilting. Emerging to Professional photography, weddings, portraits, Theatre Photography and Graphic design media publications. Now my business Devil Punk Productions provides all aspects of creative storytelling, concepts for film through mise en scene, story ideas, photography, graphics and evening acting myself.
Has my business stood the test of time? absolutely! To be resilient you must be open to change, take risks, be flexible and enjoy your life to the fullest. Because in that fullness you discover all the treasures that make you…..a creative mind.
