We were lucky to catch up with Suzette Berkhalter recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Suzette thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I’m proud to say I manage my own social media. I believe the platforms I’m on, especially Instagram, are an authentic representation of who I am as a person, a mother/wife, a friend and most importantly as a REALTOR. Even though it takes a lot of work and dedication, hiring someone else to manage my social media wouldn’t translate the same way as me managing it.
In real estate it is important to trust someone who will be handling one of the biggest financial transactions of your life. I believe storytelling on social media helps to instill enough trust to make a stranger reach out to me for help buying or selling a home. One way I do this is by telling how a relationship with a new client started, how the transaction went and all of the challenges and wins we encountered throughout.
Suzette , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Suzette Berkhalter and I am a full time residential realtor. I got into the business in 2016 on blind faith with the hopes of having a more flexible schedule for my growing family, while still having the opportunity to help people.
I have the pleasure of assisting clients who are buying their first home, their forever home, or investment properties. I also help homeowners sell their current house. I like to say I am an educator more than a realtor because I am passionate about informing the public on how to make the best financial decision possible when it comes to real estate.
What sets me apart from other realtors is my above and beyond customer service, providing valuable insight, and my communication skills. I also think the fact that I am learning based and growth minded helps me to provide a level of client care that is uncommon. The world of real estate is always changing, so it is imperative to continuously educate yourself.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media, mainly Instagram, has been the best source of new clients for me. For the past couple of years I have been purposeful in the content I post and the consistency in which I post. This has provided for me to gain more followers which has in turn brought me new clients, who are now friends!
How did you build your audience on social media?
My audience on social media was built by being consistent and being authentically me. I was taught that our social media pages should include posts that reflect one of the “three E’s”: emotion, education, or entertainment. So, that’s what I focus on. I post daily in my stories which helps those that are already following me to get to know me on a more intimate level. That includes me looking crazy working out at 5 in the morning, me being a mom, or whatever I am doing that day in real estate. I then try to post at least 5 days a week on my feed.
Advice I would give is to treat your social media like your own personal website and to be on video as much as possible. People use social media now as the new “Google” to get to know you before actually meeting you so be open, honest and raw in your posts. Be proactive in staying up to date on new trends and updates to each platform. Being consistent is also a major factor. Lastly, remember, quality over quantity.
