Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Susette Castro. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Susette, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think success is based on perspective. However, no matter your perspective on what determines success, the method you take to reach whatever that mile marker looks like is perseverance.
Success, no matter how small or big the goal is takes endurance, drive, motivation, grit and the willingness to push through and fight no matter what.
It can be a small goal like cutting out fried foods from your diet to the loftiest goal, becoming a multi-millionaire. If you give up, you won’t ever get there.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Susette and I am the very proud owner of my Wedding and Events Planning Company – Rosely Events. I am also part owner of a new modern multipurpose venue and photo studio in Kennesaw, GA called Studio 22.
My first baby is Rosely Events. I launched my business officially in October of 2020 during the pandemic. Like a lot of people- it was a year of great reflection for me which lead to the decision to quit talking about what I wanted my career to be and grabbing the bull by the horns to make it happen.
Here we are a little over 2 years later and I can proudly say that I am a published, award-winning Wedding and Event Planner and Designer.
At Rosely Events, my team and I have the honor of getting to take our couples visions and bring them to reality. Or in some cases- give them the vision. Our greatest strength is attention to detail and thinking outside of the box when it comes to bringing an event to life. I have been blessed to work with high profile clients with the grandest of budgets to the DIY brides who need a helping hand. No two weddings are alike and that is one of the reasons I love what I do so much! Boredom is not a thing in my day-to-day.
We strive to serve our clients with the highest standards of service and a VIP experience on the day of their event so they can enjoy the day!
Over the last 2 years, I have had the honor of being published in Southern Bride Magazine, featured in Wedding Chicks and have recently been awarded 1st place for Decor and Planning in Best for Bridal 2023 in the Metro Atlanta Area and also as a 2023 Best of Weddings Vendor for The Knot.
In October of 2022, 3 years ahead of my 5 year goal date, I embarked on a new journey with my niece and business partner Bella Neal along with our husbands as the owners of a new venue and photo studio in Downtown Kennesaw, GA. Now I get to combine my talents for planning and design into a space for all types of events and photoshoots!
Blessed is an understatement.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Very recently was I able to quit my full time 9-5 job as an insurance agent and turn my side hustle into my main hustle. But oh was it scary.
Back in 2020 when I first began my events business, I spent every waking moment that I wasn’t working in the office or being a mom or serving at church to pursue my business. I would work 40 hour weeks and then work full weekends and every night to build my brand, market myself, create, dream, plan and execute my vision of what I wanted my company to look like.
Over the course of the last 2 years I have done approximately 50 weddings and countless other events that have led me to where I am. There were sleepless nights, early mornings, state wide commutes, endless hours on my feet and so many sacrifices along the way- especially financially.
And truth be told, one of the biggest reasons I am now full time is due to time more than anything. Financially we still have our tough seasons but at the end of the day, in order to run a successful business that serves my clients the way I need to serve them – my 9 to 5 had to go. So I’m currently still in a season of sacrifice but I’m also in a season of blessings.
I’m no longer chained to my desk. I have the freedom to create and work the schedule that best suits me, my family and my clients. I don’t have to feel guilty when I need to put my family first sometimes.
I’m looking forward to continuing to grow and scale and expand my team in hopes that one day, the legacy I leave is a well oiled machine that my kids can proudly take over and continue to bring peoples dreams to life for the most joyous celebrations.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I feel like I am most known for my level of service and my out of the box designs and ideas. My attentiveness to detail and perfectionist mentality is more than likely attributed to the fact that I’m a virgo through and through haha.
I grew up as a member of Georgia 4-H and our motto is “Make the Best Better’. I still live by that motto today along with a saying we have at my church – “We are never finished”. Those are two very powerful mantras I have established in my life that have given me the desire to always provide the highest level of service and excellence that I can give. And then- do better.
As far as my out-of-the-box designs and ideas. I would say that it comes naturally. I love bright colors, bold statement pieces, wow moments, transforming a space, creating an immersive experience and transporting my clients and their guests into another world or aesthetic that exudes the mood and the vibe we are aiming for. I can’t explain it- it’s all in my head.
