Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Susana Canete Moey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Susana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s something crazy on unexpected that’s happened to you or your business
Working in health care over the years, I’ve noticed that people are becoming more sick earlier in their lives. I realise that we are putting more of the bad stuff into and on our bodies. Being passionate about health and wellbeing, I decided it was time to take action and bring my part. I am also very proud of and love my city, Adelaide, South Australia. It is a clean, relatively safe city with a beautiful coastline. As a prospective small business owner, I wanted to support other local business owners and promote Adelaide to the world. Furthermore, I wanted to support and eco-friendly approach as I am aware of the importance of the environment and preserving this beautiful city and coastline. Therefore, I wanted the final products going into my baskets to be locally made, eco-friendly, and good for my clients’ health and well-being. I approached local businesses and started sourcing products for my baskets. Assembling my baskets, I included products that complement each other. One such a basket I put together contained biscuits that I had sourced from a local small business. I grabbed about eight packets of these delicious looking biscuits (cookies) from the shop and rushed home afterwards. I displayed all the products I wanted to put into that particular basket on my shelf to sort through them. I started assembling the basket and a little voice inside my head told me to just check the packets. There it read: Product of Sweden! Well, so much for my locally made, supporting Adelaide and its businesses!
Susana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I migrated to Australia. I grew up with a large family and we are very close. I am passionate about health, wellbeing, kindness, care, and the environment. I decided to use my values for a good cause, so I started this company with all of this in mind. I love my city, Adelaide, South Australia and wanted to support small businesses that trade in locally made products to promote Adelaide to the world. I assemble baskets, currently in my living room. From these local products and deliver them via local drivers and outsourcing deliverers for Australia wide and overseas. No delivery is too big or too small and I work around the logistics for remote clients! I am proud to be building this business up through my own initiative and my value system, whilst helping other local businesses in the community.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first started my business often I got rejection because I rely on consignment style but most shop owners are very kind and helpful to assist me on marketing my organics products. I remember how it helped me to overcome my concerns about not succeeding.
I showed my emotions , and it allowed me to be sharing with people and overcome the obstacles and get the best of me. I had to remember who I was and how I was my loved by my family and friends.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Having worked in the service business industry it taught me a lot of lessons about sticking to my organics products .Reliability and consistency are very valuable in business locally. In spite of delays and long hours of preparation I kept trying to redesign and explain the advantages to clients without pressure . Most of all is was to give them space to re evaluate what was good about my products. I had to learn to get used to them. Eventually my patience and hard work have paid off. It works ,
