We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Susan Singer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Susan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
You always hear, when you get older you will be wiser and understand life more. You have to have experiences before you can truly embrace who you are. The good and the bad.
I have always, deep in my heart, known the path of what I was meant to create in my life. For as long as I can remember, my flame revolved around using my voice. However, I allowed fear, self doubt, lack mentality, and loved ones devour my own trust in myself and spirit.
For a very long time, I took a back seat to my career. I do not believe in mistakes, I believe in lessons. Throughout this time, I created a family, I created a home, I created strength within, important relationships and life long friends. I healed and grown to a level where now, the vail has lifted and I have stepped into my power.
I am now ready to embody my gifts and my 20 + years experience in wellness + entertainment through my Barn Yoga classes, Podcast, and Gals Off The Grid Community.
Susan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My background involves connecting deep with like-minded women through community events and workshops around Indigenous Wisdom modalities, Mother Nature, and my own voice.
I have been a global yoga teacher for over 15+ years. Teaching a variety of modalities from vinyasa to kundalini and fertility yoga. My classes are spiritual and sweaty. Depending on the season of life I am in, seems to flow with the type of classes I create. For example, I went through my own fertility journey and created classes designed specifically for fertility. Plus, my podcast at the time, Goddess Momma Fertility (which is still available on Apple/Spotify) is also an example of how I use my voice to heal.
Right out of college, I worked in the entertainment industry focusing on reality TV and brand integration. This experience, guided me towards my own passion for producing and hosting. I lunched my first docu-series, Get Naked with Susan Singer back in 2013. Interviewing creative entrepreneurs on how they were able to turn their dreams into a reality (YouTube) is still a big passion of mine.
Moving to Franklin, TN and becoming a mom in 2019 – my daughter wanted to be a country girl and I couldn’t be happier – I finally found my home. From this sacred place, I was able to find deeper healing and through that my purpose exploded.
I now teach yoga in my Barn on sacred land in Leipers Fork. I am also holding space for women through a community I co-founded called Gals Off The Grid. Where we embody indigenous wisdom into modern life through local events and international retreats. Through these two wellness initiatives, I created Wild Neighbor podcast which is an extension of what I teach and my own journey towards living my most wildly free and authentic life. I love interviewing women about this topic offering up wisdom and inspiration for others.
Wild Neighbor is launching January 2025.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Your own self. No one is like you. Your soul has come here for a reason and what you feel in your heart is the pure authenticity of what needs to be seen and heard. Be YOU!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That my heart was always right. Paired with grit and determination you will succeed. I wish I trusted myself earlier.
