We were lucky to catch up with Susan Grau recently and have shared our conversation below.
Susan , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Absolutely, there was a defining moment in my career that not only altered my professional path but also began to transform my personal perspective on life. This pivotal experience was my near-death experience. As a young child, I faced a life-threatening situation while I was locked in an unplugged freezer that brought me to the brink of death, where I encountered the presence of the afterlife. During this experience, I was enveloped in an unconditional love and peace that transcended earthly concerns, and I was given insights into the spiritual dimension that profoundly shaped my understanding of our existence. This near-death experience awakened my intuitive abilities to a new height and set me on a lifelong journey of exploring and understanding the spirit world. It’s been the cornerstone of my work as an intuitive medium and has driven my passion for helping others connect with that infinite part of themselves and their loved ones in spirit. The key lesson from this experience, which I hope to impart through my work, is the boundless capacity of our spirit and the deep interconnectedness of our lives beyond the physical realm. This insight has not only guided my professional pursuits but has also offered a source of comfort and understanding to those seeking to connect with the spirit world and find healing in their lives.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As an intuitive medium, healer, and grief specialist, my journey into this unique field began with a deeply personal experience that changed my trajectory. I had a near-death experience that not only reshaped my understanding of life and death but also revealed my path as a spiritual guide. This pivotal moment laid the foundation for my career, where I have been privileged to help others connect with loved ones who have passed, find healing, and navigate the complexities of grief and loss.
I provide various services, including personal readings, grief counseling, and spiritual healing sessions, all aimed at fostering deep, meaningful connections and promoting emotional and spiritual healing. My approach blends intuitive readings with practical grief support, making the spiritual accessible and grounded in the realities of everyday life.
What sets me apart in this field is my firsthand experience with the spiritual world, combined with a genuine, compassionate approach to healing. I strive to bring comfort and clarity to those grappling with loss, helping them to understand and process their experiences in a way that nurtures their overall well-being.
I am most proud of the impact my work has on individuals’ lives; being a part of their journey to healing and seeing them find peace and closure is incredibly rewarding. For potential clients, followers, or fans, I want them to know that my work is rooted in authenticity, empathy, and a deep commitment to helping others through their darkest times. My brand is a reflection of my life’s work: to serve as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds, guiding individuals toward healing and inner peace.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey has been marked by deeply personal tragedies that have influenced both my personal life and professional path. The losses of my two brothers and my mother to suicide are central chapters in my story of resilience. Each of these devastating events brought with them an overwhelming sense of grief and confusion, but they also opened deeper pathways to understanding the complex interplay between life and death, despair and healing.
Navigating the aftermath of these losses was an immense challenge. It forced me to confront the most painful aspects of human experience head-on. However, these experiences also solidified my commitment to helping others. They taught me about the depths of sorrow and the heights of human strength, and they instilled in me a deep and meaningful empathy for those suffering from loss.
In my work as a grief specialist, I draw directly from these personal experiences of loss. I use my understanding of pain and recovery to connect with my clients on a very personal level, guiding them through their darkest hours with genuine compassion and empathy. My own journey through grief has shown me that healing is possible, and it has inspired me to support others in finding their path to peace and recovery.
These experiences are not just part of my personal story; they are integral to my professional ethos. They are a testament to the possibility of resilience and renewal, and they motivate me to provide a space of understanding and healing for others facing the shadow of loss. Through sharing these parts of my journey, I aim to offer hope and reassurance to those who might feel overwhelmed by their grief, showing them that they are not alone and that there is a path forward.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most profound lessons I had to unlearn was the belief that I wasn’t enough and that I was unworthy. This misconception took root at a very young age and lingered well into my youth. My afterlife experience and the abilities that emerged from it set me apart from others. Being different, especially as a child or teenager, can be incredibly painful. The isolation and misunderstanding that often accompany being different led me to internalize feelings of unworthiness.
Growing up with these unique experiences, I often felt out of place, as if my differences were a barrier to acceptance and belonging. This sense of not fitting in was compounded by the typical challenges of growing up, making it even more difficult to see my own value.
The journey to shedding this false belief was long and arduous. It involved a lot of self-reflection and healing, both through personal development and my work helping others. As I began to embrace my gifts and see the positive impacts they could have, my perspective shifted. I realized that my unique abilities were not flaws but strengths that allowed me to connect with others on a deep level and offer something truly special.
It took years to fully appreciate my gifts and to recognize myself as enough just as I am. This transformation was not just about accepting myself but also about realizing the potential of my contributions to the world. Now, I see my past experiences not as barriers to my worth but as integral parts of what makes me capable and effective in my work as an intuitive medium and grief counselor. This lesson of self-worth and acceptance is something I strive to pass on to those I help, encouraging them to recognize and embrace their own unique qualities and experiences.
