We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Susan Feder a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Susan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I had art therapy after a bad car accident. I didn’t expect to like it, but as time went by, I found a way to express myself.
Past, now and future were all immersed into my sculptures.
It has been a hard struggle in these last few years, as I like to put happy and confident energy into my ladies. But, as I adjust and continue to push forward, I am back to making sculptures. (Well when my broken arm heals) and feel that I am able to make many new collectors happy and loving their confident sculptures, in my new town of St Augustine, Florida

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Most of my life, I worked in the cruise industry.. the sea has always been very important to me. As a child, I was fascinated by fashion and adventure. By joining a cruise ship, I was able to meet people from many different countries and cultures just observing how they interacted and what made people happy what made people enjoy life. I was afforded the opportunity to travel to many different countries and see the different types of clothing and the joy that each nationality had.
I had a very bad accident and part of my rehab was to make art through therapy. At first, this wasn’t something that I really wanted to do. But after several years of trying different mediums, I discovered Sculptures. With my sculptures I was able to regain some of what I lost in my accident, I was able to put my love of life, joy of being and love of clothes and sparkles, by creating beautiful sculptures..
I use a unique product process that is an air dry clay, and instead of glaze I’m able to use paint. I love this process because what I vision in my head, I can create with my hands.
Many of my sculptures have gone to doctors offices, lawyers, offices, peoples homes, wedding planners, and just overall happy collectors.
What I’d like you to know about me is that when I create a Sculpture whether it’s one of my pieces in my head or a Commission that you asked me to do, I will only create it with positive happy energy, and if it is a commission many times I will actually talk to that person in my head as I’m making the piece.
I think what I’m most proud of is the ability to create something that makes people smile, something beautiful yet something powerful. I believe that art can make you feel something good inside and that’s what I want to portray. That though that the world is tough but sometimes you can just take a step back and just look at the beauty around you.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When somebody falls in love with one of my sculptures. Whether they purchase them or they just admire them, the sheer look of joy on their faces just does wonders. But my most rewarding aspect is when someone sees one of my sculptures and says I need this in my office/house or must get for ….… is very rewarding.
The ability for me to create something that others admire and feel inspired by or to just able to breathe in their presence is a truly amazing.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I had a severe car accident, left my beloved state and moved to the desert, and endured the loss of my mother, father, my two lifer pets and my ability to be near the beach, all within 5 years.
I took time out from my art as I wasn’t able to make them joyful. The loss of my creative outlet was difficult on my soul.
Slowly I made some life changing moves and am now happily in Florida, near the ocean again.
I am ready to put my sparkle into my sculptures again and share them with a whole new set of collectors.
