We were lucky to catch up with Susan Del Broccolo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Susan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, folks often look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight – but that often obscures all the nitty, gritty details of everything that went into the growth phase of your business. We’d love to hear about your scaling story and how you scaled up?
The most important factor I incorporated into my business to become more successful was creating a brand. This was a great way I represented myself, my style in my photographs and connecting with future clients. Living in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, surrounded by small towns…I learned to specialize in many different types of photography that enables me to cater to my community. In addition, I live and breathe Texas vibes…my work is known for representing the Texas western country and those beautiful golden tones that comes with it.

Susan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Howdy! My name is Susan and I am a Central Texas based photographer!
I have always loved art and had a camera in hand! I officially opened my photography business after my two daughters were born. I loved capturing those special moments in their lives and preserving them in photographs forever. Living on a rural ranch in the heart of the Texas Hill Country is what made me expand my specialties while reflecting my Texas style. I offer many genres to my local community… Equine, Micro weddings, Engagement Photography and more! I love to shoot specifically when the sun sets and the Texas stars turn blue!
Working on a ranch and belonging to the equestrian reigning community, allows me to provide equine photography services! Not only can I photograph sessions locally, but on the road as my daughters and I compete on our two mares! We spend countless hours training with a professional trainer in which all my education and knowledge transfer into my photography. Posing horses for fine art portraits, photographing the connection between the horse & rider, to documenting all riding outlet allows me to create beautiful, timeless images!
In addition to equestrian photography, there is nothing more beautiful than a wedding within the Texas Hill Country! Our ranch is surrounded by picturesque wedding venues that allow me to photograph weddings locally and capture those unforgettable love stories. There are so many incredible photography opportunities for me within my community and I feel like I can really capture everything here! Whether you want your photos to look a little more rustic, western, or classic elegance…the Texas Hill Country always provides a gorgeous backdrop and the best sunsets!
When opening this business, I never thought it would turn into such an amazing career filled with such special people! Photography has always been a love of mine and I am so humbled to be able to provide joy to other people!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

#2 A website to showcase my work with great SEO is key to assist future clients to locate me and even book with me.
#3 Networking and social media is another great way I made connections with my local community while showcasing my work.
