Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Surya Hernandez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Surya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
This is such a great question! Have you ever felt that your greatest memories of childhood do not truly reflect who you are? Does a picture of yourself as a child make you feel like you can’t really remember what that stage of your life was really like?
As a result, The Missing Sock aka TMS was born, with the challenge to provide every person we photograph with the value of those memories that never come back, captured in such a way that we can all experience the essence, the genuineness, and the naturalness of the child by simply looking at the photograph, and we can relive them every time we look at them again.
As a team of young, passionate photographers, creators, designers, gamers, cats, and dog lovers, we’re dedicated to freezing that ultimate most beautiful memory of every child, so their “sock” will never be missing!
Additionally, we add special elements to our sessions to make them more memorable and fun, such as handmade backdrops and personalized photo sessions. Taking care of our clients is what we do best, and we go above and beyond to provide them with memories that are worth saving for a lifetime.
Surya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Here’s a little summary about TMS!
What is The Missing Sock?
We specialize in capturing family memories, and our biggest challenge is capturing the essence of the people behind the camera. As a team, we strive to make each client smile, laugh, and cry out of happiness by capturing them and their family in the most authentic and natural way possible.
At TMS we live for the moments that are impossible to put into words!
How can we help you?
We By taking care of every detail in all our services, we are passionate about telling stories; regardless of whether we are doing school pictures, maternity, birthday parties, graduations, or just “because” we believe that every important moment in a human’s life should be captured and preserved for many years to come.
Why The Missing Sock?
We differentiate ourselves by elevating the simplest photography to make a memory unforgettable. Additionally, The Missing Sock has a young, professional, and passionate team that cares about the client and accompanies them throughout the process, from the beginning to the end, with agility and ease.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Let’s start at the beginning. Before I founded TMS in 2016 I realized there was a void, something missing in the school photography industry, a lot of kids were being photographed, but there wasn’t a feeling or soul, and I could understand that. School photography is basically mass photography, but I thought there had to be something I could do to keep the beauty and essence of photography.
For the last ten years, I have been passionate about photography, and when I captured people, I always wanted them to stand out, and I wanted to showcase their uniqueness and their special attribute.
After founding The Missing Sock, I became the main photographer, but as we grew, I had to add more photographers to our team. My selection process for joining our photography team is very exclusive because I am looking for the extraordinary. I want people who are passionate about other people and, most importantly, we have a differential value: always innovation without sacrificing our client’s care.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Our strategy is simply to be extraordinary in ordinary moments. Attention to detail is one of the most important ingredients, and our customer service department always makes sure our customers are happy and satisfied. Our final product is always flawless and last but not least our teamwork! Without it, we wouldn’t be what we are today.
