We recently connected with Superman Mccoy and have shared our conversation below.
Superman, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Recently, I took a risk on myself leaving everything that was my safety and comfort zone. I deconstructed my life going through everything as I was getting rid of everything and moving out of Austin. Finally taking the leap to travel and share my life fully with others while advocating for Trans Rights as well as LGBTQIA+ Rights standing up against injustice as well as moving forward and letting go. After heartbreak and a long legal battle with the LA Sheriff’s Deputy’s Department overcoming and surviving a hate crime in 2016 then being attacked in 2020 from LA Sheriff’s Deputies, I found myself again having a battle of what I am wanting to pursue in life. I thought I had it all figured out, boy was I wrong. I have done so many different things not realizing that all along what I wanted was right in front of me. For me to be able to share with the world my life that no matter what life throws at you, there is nothing that you cannot overcome. I have been traveling full time sharing my life and experience since. As well as speaking out about injustices that continue to happen and standing with the community. It has been one of the most exhilarating risks I have ever taken! The biggest achievement of my life is taking a risk on me which is the best risk I have ever taken. Being able to perform, travel, motivate, and encourage others is nothing more than a win! This is exactly why Beast Dont Break!
Superman, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Most call me Superman yet my name is Kristopher. I am a Transman who has survived hate crimes and I travel around the USA and world spreading joy to others through song, dance, speaking, art, tattooing and my brand Beast Dont Break. I started in the industry after a massive trauma that changed my life. It caused me to reevaluate my life and pushed me to just do what I love! No matter the cost. I have no 9-5 I work on my own schedule. I am able to travel wherever I want while impacting people in a positive light. I am proud that I am making such a large impact without knowing it. I am an entertainer who travels while speaking to others as well as promoting my brand Beast Dont Break. The hardest thing I have found is getting everything on a structured schedule and networking. I share my life in full so that way if there is someone out there they know that they are not alone. That there is nothing that they cannot overcome! That is exactly why Beast Dont Break! I love traveling, dancing, singing, tattooing, exploring, speaking to others and so much more!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn was that family and friends will be the first to not support my visions or dreams. I always thought based on what is taught that family and friends would be there to support me. After explaining that I wanted to travel, and share my life with others, my family and friends were the first to say that is not a real job. That I would need to have some form of job working for someone that I needed to ensure that I was following what they thought was the American Dream. I let them all know that I am doing this for me and I took the leap! It has been one of the most harshest lessons I have had to learn. You will find support from those you never thought would support you. Open your heart up and allow others to support you unlearn that family and friends are the ones you need to lean on, it takes a community of everyone to help anyone!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is that there are no limitations to what can be done. If you can dream it you can achieve it! Sharing with others the building of a three story shed just out of imagination. Sharing with others the demolition and rebuild to my camper Scout, an A-Liner was extremely gratifying. Sharing the making process of a Drag Performance of Sonic the HedgeHog head out of paper macaie, and the entire outfit which I performed in. Sharing jewelry that I have made with others as a token of my gratitude for the ability to be so creative. The feeling of being able to motivate others with my life experience is so gratifying. The most rewarding aspect of being creative is knowing there are no limitations to what you can imagine to create.
