We were lucky to catch up with Super Flamee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Super thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned fashion design from just observing. Observing the way people dressed, the way things were built, and what was culture in general. So I just tried to figure out how things were made and what was “cool.” So I just start looking for information to teach myself how to design and sew.
Skills that were essential for me personally was being a quick learner, having a drive, and learning to have good mental visual skills.
Obstacles that stood in the way of learning more was just either not being from a fashion capitol and living in Detroit where there isnt to much design production informaton just easily floating around; and not having money to go to fashion school.

Super , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The type of products I sell is handmade made to order clothes with slight tailoring in every piece. My brand is called “Cruel Thoughts” and its a luxury streetwear brand where all the pieces are hand made in house by me. From picking the fabrics, grading patterns, and seamstress work its all down by me, With “Cruel Thoughts,” I like to think of it as a creative studio were there isn’t really a brand mission or a classic aesthetic. Its art that reflects and touches on what’s just going on in a satire kind of way.
The problem my studio solves is making stuff not boring in different. Just make shit cool and “different”. We also solve the problem of making streetwear clothes with better fits, fabrics, and quality. What sets these brand apart from others is even though these pieces might be looked at as “streetwear,” we approach every piece with a traditional atelier vibe. Even the smallest simplest things we make are approached from that perspective.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
How I got my initial start was just by simply being a go getter, and treating every season like stack season. Sacrificing a lot of things to make the dots connect. Basically just hustling, and staying focused.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I really don’t have one as good as i want it yet. But, hat helped me was focusing as hard as i could on the craft and not all the extra stuff and being good at executing things most people cant do on a whim.
