We recently connected with Supah Sayin and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Supah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My upcoming project “Neo Lizard King” has been the most memorable, meaningful, and important piece of work I’ve made so far! The seven-song project will be my debut album with @BrokenRecordMusicClub (my label & creative design team) and it is the first album I’ve ever had professionally mixed & mastered. “Neo Lizard King” is a psychedelic experience in itself… Detailing the highs and lows of life with deeply introspective and provocatively raw subject matter. NLK was concepted in mid 2023, but truly put into fruition after I was signed to @BrokenRecordMusicClub. Neo Lizard King will be available on all major music platforms April 7th, 2023.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Supah Sayin & I’m a Psychedelic Rapper/Hip-hop artist from Fort Worth, Texas! I’ve been working for 10+ years in the independent music industry amassing equipment, developing a deep-rooted community, and tuning my musical skills. My upcoming project “NLK” will be my debut album with Broken Record Music Club (an independent music label)! I’m Supah Stoked to be able to bring this album to the world on all major music platforms… My team & I truly feel that “Neo Lizard King’ has the power to shift the global consciousness and bring a much-needed spark of hope to the people of planet Earth.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My audience started with close friends and family who knew my passion and love for Rap/Hip-hop! As the years progressed, I picked up useful tips and tricks to keep people interested but truthfully… the marketing aspect of things is a wild card. My early marketing consisted of weekly segments, musical critiques, and previews of unreleased music for about the first 4 years, then I transitioned to the Instagram app and kept a pretty similar formula with the inclusion of daily posts on Story and weekly posts relating to my musical journey via Feed format. My one piece of advice to any creator is don’t be afraid to promote yourself, despite what anyone says about you. Take feedback and critique when its genuinely given, but don’t let other opinions shape and mold you. Trust Your Gut!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society should stray from controlling the artistic ecosystems or expression. We as the human race should strive to embrace diversity while expressing our own individuality. The Human Race should aspire to grow as fast consciously as we have technologically. We as a species should try to eliminate the toll we have taken on this world in any degree that we can both mentally and physically…. Our existence depends on it! Many a future may seal our fate, but wouldn’t it be an absolute shame to be self-induced? The Human Empire wiped off the face of the Earth by our mere yet overwhelming ego. Cosmic avoidable karma. I think with all those things in mind we can begin to be less critical of ourselves and one another and reach a point of clarity where expression is just seen as an extension of our physical and spiritual embodiment.
