We recently connected with Sunshine Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Sunshine, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think that answer depends on how you define success. I used to be focused on the material things, status, wealth and wanted badly to have the latest just like everyone else. I worked hard and did my part to help make lots of people rich but I was so unfulfilled and directionless. Now that I know what’s important in life, I personally believe success means persevering towards the things that I love to do. Once I discovered(and I’m always discovering new ones) my passions, I knew it was my duty to bring them to life. And that will mean many things for different people but I know its what makes my life worth living.
When I put my efforts toward living a fulfilling life, helping others and doing all things with love, I am always in alignment with success. As I have learned from trusting myself and putting my faith in the Universe, all of the financial & material abundance falls into place as it should.

Sunshine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Sunshine Akiba Davis. My name means: A Beloved & Joyous Result. But most people just call me Sunny. I believe that my name is the path that has been carved out for me and it is my mission to aid others in seeing their own beloved and joyous results as well. I am a Wellness Practitioner and I utilize my personal & professional experience to assist others with transforming how they view themselves through the lens of health and wellness in order to obtain and maintain their goals. In other words, I help those who may be having difficulty setting and/or reaching health goals to break them into actionable and attainable pieces.
I started on this path when I was a Sophomore in high school and wanted to drastically change my life. The summer between Sophomore & Junior year, I started eating healthier, more veggies & less red meat, fast/processed foods, went to the gym for two-a-days and lost over 70 pounds. Almost 10 years later, I gained it all back. My then mother-in-law had stage IV-A cervical cancer, I was obese and didn’t know what to do. I started watching documentaries: Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, Forks Over Knives and Cowspiracy; these documentaries convinced me that a diet rich in animal protein was going to keep me on this train of yoyo-dieting, failed weight loss attempts and potentially bedridden with some dis-ease or ill-ness. I had to refocus and quit looking at my health like it was something that needed to be beaten into submission and conquered! It was time that I looked at my weight & poor health as an extension and reflection of my beliefs, habits and love, or lack thereof, for myself. It started with no longer using the word “diet” in its negative connotation. Diet simply means: the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats. Emphasis on “habitual”! I took this opportunity not to focus on all the things I was doing wrong, but as a chance to ask myself, “What would I like to see added to my life? What would I do if I were “healthy”? What do happy people do and how can I get some of it?” Since embarking on this change, I am so grateful to say that I have never gained any of the weight back and I feel better and younger than I did when I was half my age. Going vegan was the start of a journey that I am 100% thrilled to be on and am honored to be able to share with anyone who is willing to listen.
As my health improved, so did my confidence and desire to share what I know with others. I began cooking plant-based meals and realized that this was something that the community needed. I started offering plant-based meal prep, juicing and catering to the Bay Area. As my interests grew, so did my offerings. I got into herbalism for gastrointestinal issues my ex & I were dealing with. Turns out parasite cleansing helped with way more than just gut issues. So I started creating my own parasite cleanses for myself and ultimately for others to discover and potentially heal some of their own issues.
On a professional level, I am a plant-based chef, Doula, Herbalist, coach and am currently in school for massage therapy. It is one of my passions to use what I have learned throughout this life to introduce individuals to the best versions of themselves. I teach about gut health and the importance of regulating a dysbiosis state, I share knowledge on easy ways to live a plant-based lifestyle and I sell herbal products on my site in order to aid with such practices.
It has been a wild ride for me over the years but I am most proud of the work I’ve done with myself and the growth I have experienced over the last few years. I have come a long way on this physical, emotional and spiritual journey, readers can check out pieces of my story on my socials, and I am grateful to be where I am now. Because of the work I have done for myself, I am focused and backed by guidance that allows me to help others on this journey as well. I want the readers to know that I know it’s not an easy feat to completely transform your life, but with passion, consistency and love for yourself, its all truly possible.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Depending on which part of the business we’re referring to, the best way to reach a broader audience has been through social media, specifically TikTok. Out of all of the platforms that exist, TikTok has been the easiest way to reach viewers without having to change up too much of my internal processes. It’s quite simple to just take the topics that I love to discuss on a regular basis and just press record.
For the health & herbalism side of business, TikTok is where its at. The engagement has been pretty high and I get to interact with lots of people. For the culinary side of things, word of mouth has been a big blessing for me. I have a few regular clients that have been faithfully ordering and recommending me to all of their family, friends, and coworkers. Its been so impactful for me and where I wish to see the business expand.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started showcasing my recipes and new healthy foods I was trying on Instagram. A quick picture of breakfast, a dinner recipe or a new staple that I think everyone should try and that’s all it took to get people interested and looking to my page for veganism advice.
Although Instagram is where I got started, it isn’t where I’ve had my most growth and business success. TikTok was so foreign to me, and I thought it was only a place for Gen Zs. I felt like it was another way for me to get sucked in the Metaverse but I was completely wrong. I joined the app in Fall of 2020 but didn’t post my first video until Summer of 2021. I was scrolling on the app and found someone talking about parasites and an easy way to get rid of them. You all may remember the papaya seed trend that was going around. I saw someone’s video and instantly knew I NEEDED to stitch it. When I woke up the next day, I had thousands of followers, the night before I had 3. I had hundreds of comments and questions. It was mostly positive feedback and people wanting to know how the hell do we get rid of parasites! And it’s just been growing ever since. From July to September of 2021 I gained over 30,000 followers and thousands in sales.
Growing on social media can be tricky but its profoundly necessary. It’s a great way to gain attention needed to grow and lure your audience to other sites for products sold or other content you wish to share with them. The best advice I can give, is to be a resource to others. If you are wanting to sell to your audience, let them know why you are the one they should be buying from. Teach them something they didn’t know about your field. Be the guiding light that they need on their path. Its the best way to build community, gain brand awareness and center yourself as the resource for them to always refer to. If you can teach someone something vital, they will be your biggest supporter, always.
Some practical tips:
1. Be yourself.
2. Be authentic.
3. Be consistent.
4. Be informative.
5. Be trendy, as long as it makes sense to your niche.
Following those tips have shown me the best results I could have asked for.
