We were lucky to catch up with Sunflowaa Cee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sunflowaa , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path was about 19 years old. I was always told I should but I didn’t really believe in myself. I remember sitting at home and I started writing a song, Sunflowaa, and thought gosh I could really do this. Shortly after I started thinking about how music has always helped me. Sometimes we don’t always know how to say what or how we feel but there’s always a song that describes it perfectly. Music truly is a way of communicating and bringing people together. I started singing more and writing more and started to feel better mentally and emotionally and I knew I wanted to share my talent because I knew it could potentially change lives.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Sunflowaa like sunflower but with 2 a’s. I chose that name because it perfectly define me and my energy and it’s also my favorite flower. I am most proud of my vulnerability in music. When I sing Im singing from my soul it’s like everything around me no longer exists. I always want it to be understood that I always sing only of things I experience or want to experience. Im proud of creating a safe space for others through music. We are all different but sometimes our traumas make us similar. I sing and allow myself to openly feel things that most won’t. Sunflowaa is love, light, and a safe space to anyone needing it.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a artist will always be knowing that my music helps others. I wrote based on any emotion I feel and I never know who might have needed to hear the message I sing. I’ve been told by many that I’ve saved them, they feel seen and loved. Through my music many tell me they don’t feel alone in there struggles. I said in a cover song “if I never make a dime that’s fine im just trying to change a few lives like mine”. I mean every word of that.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I actually started building my platform on Instagram and Facebook first and it moved super super slow. I gained followers I started to post videos of me singing my music and covers to other songs but it still didn’t get me what I needed. About two years ago I joined TickTock and I was determined on TickTock to make a name for myself create a space for myself or a lame if you would say. I started making videos of me singing there just letting everyone know that I wanted to be able to seeing on live video via TikTok and that’s what really helped me grow truly being able to go live and sing for people and for them to actually be able to interact with me and be able to feel those raw emotions during the song. My advice to anyone that wants to start to build a social media presence be your self don’t be who you think the people want don’t be someone that you have seen before be yourself because anyone in anything that is for you will always be for you it will always come to you as long as you are being you.
