We recently connected with Summer Stevenson and have shared our conversation below.
Summer , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I graduated from my Masters program in May 2021 and had my heart set on New York City. I believe that is important to step out on faith and chase your dreams. My ultimate goal and vision was to become a licensed counselor in the state of New York and soon after, open my own private practice. My first step in this process was applying for my counseling license in the state of New York and getting a job. At the time, I believed that finding my first big girl job would be easy and take only a few weeks. I was wrong and my time spent looking for a job humbled me. I interviewed for months, applying for jobs in-between and looking for the perfect fit. I felt the pressure to settle for a job and just move to New York. But I knew in my heart that finding the right job would be worth the wait. I am very happy that I accepted my 1st job at New Patterns Therapy in Brooklyn, New York.

Summer , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a native Houstonian. I moved from Houston to New York City nine months ago. I would describe myself as confident, energetic and positive. I love traveling, and meeting new people.
As an influencer and model, I have loved promoting different brands and trying new products. One of my favorite experiences was collaborating with ACQUA Medspa in Webster, Texas. I did CoolSculpting for several weeks and noticed a physical change to my body. This non-surgical procedure helped me become bikini ready for the Miss Texas USA stage.
I am a mental health therapist in the state of New York. I work with individuals and couples. I specialize in anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and grief. I want my potential clients to know that I am dedicated to creating change in their lives and helping them navigate a better life. I am proud of my client’s success stories and I feel grateful to be able to experience their progress firsthand.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective way to grow my clientele as a therapist is referrals. It is imperative that if you have a great experience with myself or another therapist, that you tell your friends and family about them. Personal success stories are very heartfelt and the best way to help an entrepreneur grow their business.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I had to rewind time, I absolutely would choose the same profession. I love the autonomy in working for a private practice, setting my own hours and having control of my schedule. I have the freedom to work as much or as little as I would like. It was always important for me to choose a career that offered me flexibility because I want to be a successful wife and mother one day.
