Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Summer Rose. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Summer , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I love this question. There is nothing I would change about the way I was brought up. That doesn’t mean I had a perfect childhood, far from it. My upbringing was non traditional. I was raised by a single mother who lived off the grid and basically rebelled against everything society said it was to be a woman. She started her own business when I was 6 years old, because she couldn’t afford help at that time, I learned to be very self-sufficient. Cooking for myself, doing my laundry, choosing my clothes etc. I’m so grateful for that time because there was so much freedom for me there, I was able to learn to trust myself at a young age.
While this may appear unconventional that period of my life gave me a sense of freedom. Trust was extended to me at a young age, fostering a sense of self-reliance. The judgment that could be cast upon such an upbringing fails to capture the profound blessing it was for me.
In retrospect, those formative years were a container for my creativity. The autonomy I had in preparing my own meals and expressing myself laid the foundation for my love of creation today. I owe my artistic spirit and trust in my instincts to the invaluable time spent navigating the world on my own terms.
My mother was and is the most loving person I know, she showed up for me in the ways that I really needed. I might have not been the most well kept child, my table manners were likely awful, but I was so loved.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
WHO ARE YOU? I am Summer Rose, founder of Local Juicery, SWHM in Beauty, and the soon-to-open Wildcraft Kitchen in Sedona, AZ. I’m certified as a plant-based nutritionist, cosmetologist, personal trainer, and health coach. I also served as the lead educator at the former Matthew Kenney Culinary Institute in Los Angeles. My journey into the wellness industry began as a quest for self-healing.
My work as a chef, author, and entrepreneur has always been driven by my desire to bring more love into the world. I have a long history in the health and wellness industry, but my main passion lies in supporting healing journeys and supporting a healthy community. I believe the best way to make the world a better place is by starting with ourselves. By caring for and showing up for our inner life, we bring our highest frequency to our families, loved ones, and all we meet in our lifetime. I think this changes the world. I never underestimate the power of one. This belief is at the core of all my offerings, whether it be a juice, an online order, or a retail space; this is the energy I always hope is felt from the food I serve, the spaces I create, and those I work with.
TELL US MORE ABOUT LOCAL JUICERY.
In 2014, drawing on my personal experiences and a passion for clean living, I founded Local Juicery with my now ex-husband Mike Sanders. With multiple locations in Arizona, Local Juicery offers a range of organic, superfood-filled, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, tonics, and meals. Additionally, our online shop features my collection of adaptogenic superfoods and organic plant-based pantry staples. I’ve authored two books that go deeper into my healing and health philosophy, “Raw and Radiant” and “Love Your Body, Feed Your Soul,” both published by Skyhorse Publishing.
DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER PASSIONS?
My children and family, which I tend to keep private…
I find joy in consulting and creating meaningful concepts, brands, and experiences. My expertise spans into retail curation, wellness brand consulting, menu and product development, creative direction, and authentic social media strategy. Through running successful cafes and wellness boutiques, consulting with like-minded brands, and collaborating with entrepreneurs, I’ve cultivated a balance of operational excellence and creative practices, contributing to the success of enduring concepts.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Dedication to the best and most high-quality organic ingredients and showing up with integrity have helped my businesses grow their loyal clientele. This wasn’t a strategy, so to speak; it was just a part of who we are as people and who we wanted to show up as in business. I genuinely believe people feel and taste the difference, and then they naturally share their love of the product and come back over and over again.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I get to play! Truly, this is the best more rewarding part of working in a a creative roll. Cooking, creating space, developing recipes and products, running photo shoots, styling, and curating retail is all an absolute joy for me. I feel so grateful to have a wonderful team that fills in my gaps and lets me use my talents and strengths.
