We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Summer McIntyre. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Summer below.
Summer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share an anecdote or story from your schooling/training that you feel illustrates what the overall experience was like?
Ever since the beginning of time, I’ve always been the girl that people would come to when they needed advice. From relationship issues, to family drama it seems that people would always come to me when they needed my guidance. I knew that being a therapist was my calling because if people from my school to adults at my jobs come to me with there personal problems why can’t I make this my reality? With this in mind, I’m currently in school to get my Bachelors degree in psychology so I can be taken seriously around my peers. When I receive my Bachelors I will then get my Master’s so I can join a practice to change peoples lives for the better.
Summer, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
One way I will describe myself is hardworking. Throughout my 23 years of life I’ve always been able to set goals for myself so I can be 20 steps ahead of others. I’ma sensitive person with a big heart if I do say so myself. Many people who know me personally can describe me as hyper and energetic which I believe to be true. What sets me apart from most people is my personality. I’m the type of person who will never give up on someone or something unless you take me to that place. I believe my greatest success is never giving up on myself because there were many times in my life where I wanted to just quit. What kept me going was the outcome of my actions and the people that would be affected by it. I knew that I needed to let go of toxic friendships that held me back and to put me first. Ever since I made my circle smaller, my life increasingly got better and I’m forever blessed because of it. My main goal is to be successful enough to provide for my family and the people in my life who supported my dreams.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
One of the MAIN things that made me successful is to not give up on ANYTHING. I say this because psychology isn’t an easy major. I’m a junior at Georgia State University and there were many occasions where I was scared for potential outcomes. Knowing that I’m so close to getting my Bachelors Degree keeps me going through these tough times. Knowing that God made this my dream keeps me moving because I know this is my passion.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
One main thing that helped me was finding the right advisors. Advisors go a long way when it came down to my success in my field in school. I also believe that internships are another way that helped me achieve greatness. My main goal is to get an internship to get hired immediately. I want to be in a position that I’m financially stable enough to my provide for myself and my family.
