Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Suless Burton . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Suless, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Born in the United States on October 12, 1977, Suless Burton works as an actress, writer, director, and executive producer. Suless graduated with a bachelor’s degree in advertising and design from the International Academy of Design and Technology. Afterwards, she continued to enroll in classes at The Greenroom Acting Studio. She started out in theater productions before going on to television and movies. She later gained notoriety and renown for her role as one of the key characters named Chanel in the 2021 film When Does It Stop, which she wrote, directed, and starred in. She has acted in additional well-known indie films, including Devin on TUBI Television, Humanity without a home and Innocence. In 2018, she also starred in the sitcom Consenting Adults on WGN Television, but it was later cancelled after one season. Since then Suless has written and directed another film called HOPE, inspired by the 1988 file Lean on me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My inspiration is positive outcomes. I love teaching the younger generation the ins and outs of acting, showing them all the hardwork and dedication it takes to succeed plus it keeps the younger adults off these horrible streets of Chicago. My mission is to keep making positive movies and help other people dreams come true.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing the smiles on the audience faces as my vision comes to life right before their eyes and as they appreciate what I do.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to draw boundaries between my work and friends. “Everyone is only out for themselves so be prepared when you’ve held someone’s hand to help them get closer to their dreams but when it’s time for them to hold your hand to help you get closer to your dreams, no one is to be found” is the plain lesson I had to learn as a filmmaker. There is no backstory.
