We recently connected with Sulee Khongkhangam and have shared our conversation below.
Sulee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being a small business owner has taught me that success is very much a mindset and not a destination. Anything you do can be a success even the smallest of victories. You have to be able grow, adapt and expand with new challenges. Being a business owner requires a lot of patience because we are always going to go through some form of trials and tribulations. Statistics say the first 3-5 years is the part where you make mistakes, learn and grow. It’s the perseverance to push beyond those breaking points I think is really what it takes to run a successful business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Sulee. I’m 32 years old, born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, though I’ve had the pleasure of calling Washington my home for over 20 years. We immigrated here when I was 8 years old with my parents and two younger sisters. I am a mompreneur. When I’m not tracking down deadlines I am chasing three wonderful kids!
Prior to owning my own business I was in healthcare working as an admission coordinator. I became very interested in the industry when one of my close friends got married and I was along for the ride during the planning process. I got to meet the most wonderful vendors and compared to healthcare this gave me so much more joy! From then I more or less slowly integrated myself with people in the industry and it just took off from there! This industry has really allowed me to be creative while also providing me with the ability to critically think and problem solve, something that I loved about healthcare.
One thing that I feel sets me apart from others is my passion. I truly put my heart and soul into every interaction and connections I make in this business. I want my potential clients to know that I am here to advocate for you and listen to all the crazy ideas.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is not easy and it’s something I struggle with everyday. My best advice is to market yourself! Be you, clients want to see the face of the company and people who run it. If you want to attract clients that are FOR YOU, this is the best way. In addition to that, I also found that keeping up with trends and paying attention to the algorithm is incredibly helpful in making your content visible!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
This industry is heavily based on client/vendor referral and that’s where most of my new leads come from. I spend a lot of my time networking to make sure that I’m connected with as many people as I can in different markets and areas. I strive to make long lasting connections not just sales.
