Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sukuma Avery. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sukuma, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
TopLine Presenters LLC takes a completely different approach to trade show success compared to the industry standard.
Most companies focus on the logistics of trade shows, booth setup, signage, and giveaways which is very important, however that’s not what drives results. Trade shows are about engagement, connection, and conversion and that’s where we stand apart.
Companies that exhibit at trade shows believe that a flashy booth will bring in more traffic and leads. But attendees don’t remember booths, they remember experiences. We create customized interactive, high-impact presentations that make attendees stop, engage, and take action.
At one of the largest enterprise tech trade shows of the year, a cybersecurity company had invested six figures into their booth. It had a great design, top-tier branding, and the latest tech displays. But by mid-day, their team noticed a huge problem attendees were walking by without stopping.
They had the perfect setup, yet no one was engaging. The following year they called us.
We discussed the challenges and realized the issue:
1. The booth looked impressive but lacked interaction. Nothing invited attendees in.
2. The booth staff was reactive, not proactive. They waited for people to come to them instead of engaging show attendees.
3. Their messaging was too complex. Their value wasn’t clear in the first five seconds—so attendees kept walking.
We made three key changes:
1. We restructured their messaging into one clear, compelling statement that instantly told attendees why they should stop.
2. We trained their booth team on how to confidently approach and engage attendees instead of waiting for them.
3. We introduced a simple interactive experience that sparked curiosity and got attendees involved.
The result?
By the end of the show, their booth had become a top destination, traffic had doubled, and they walked away with 50% more qualified leads than the previous year.
They didn’t need a bigger budget. They needed a better strategy.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My journey as a professional magician and presenter started at the early age of seven in my home town of Fairbanks, Alaska.
By age 12 I was performing professionally with my mentor John Lentine aka Mr. Checkers, at kid birthday parties, corporate events, and community events around town.
It’s now been over 25 years since I’ve started my company. The first ten years, were presenting magical entertainment for corporate events, restaurants, fairs, and schools.
After working in these different markets specifically corporate, restaurants, and schools I realized that not, only was I entertaining people but delivering valuable marketing, sales, or impactful messages that grabbed people’s attention. It was in those moments that I recognized the potential to make a significant difference for Fortune 100 and 500 companies on the trade show floor.
Today I’m truly blessed to present presentations worldwide at corporate sales meetings, conferences, trade shows and other high-end corporate events for Fortune 100 and 500 companies.
I’m dedicated to working with event decision makers to use my gift as a means to communicate, express wonder, joy, laugher and when you combined all those things together there’s only one thing left, an atmosphere of love and bringing people together!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in building my reputation is to provide a good product on top of being a good person. Don’t get me wrong your service or product you offer the market place must be top class, however nothing beats you treating people good and truly caring about their needs. That’s what builds reputation.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
At the beginning of my journey I had to figure out a way for people to book my services for their company events. I had no money to market so I just on the phone and made cold calls. I also didn’t really know what to say when making the calls other then “My name is Sukuma and I am a magician that provides entertainment for company events like yours, want to book me?”
I got hung up on so many times that I grew thick skin and kept cold calling until someone said yes. It was hard to make those calls because I also had no standard job so I had very little income. The only thing I had on my side was time and a resilient mindset to keep going.
