We were lucky to catch up with Suher Haidar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Suher thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
Being in a saturated industry I made a strong decision (A couple years ago) To value my years of experience and knowledge. I now chose clients that align with my quality of work and hold my experience at a higher level. This was definitely no overnight success, rather years of not feeling valued for what I had to offer. Now is 2024 and beyond, I make sure to focus on clients with a Refined taste and work effortlessly to make their wildest dreams come true.
Suher, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As many of us out there, I loved entertaining and creating beautiful spaces. But after a huge life changing experience, I leveled up and made sure to turn my passion into a successful creative business. I offer full plan and curated design services along with elevated corporate events. I also love creating elaborate social events which has been a new found creative outlet for my company. I am currently dabling in the home design aspect of life as I feel everyday needs to be celebrated.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
This is a good question. I feel that I sometimes come across as being tough and over detailed when it comes to my clients visions, but as the planners, It is important that we advocate where needed. In saying that, I have been blessed to work with amazing vendors that I LOVE and in turn, we have created spectacular events together. I also started Refined By Suher. The first Community, network and connection group that led me to meet and connect with a plethora of amazing creatives in our indusry. I am proud to say that I have led the way with an innovative and unique approach to creating a environment for all vendors in San Diego to help them succeed.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to take a step back and be okay with Delegating. This is still something I am trying my best to master. I feel that because I have been alone for some time as the owner of FRE and Refined By Suher, delegating came with fears of error. What I didn’t know about delegating was that I had more time to actually focus on growing my business.
