We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sue Prescott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sue below.
Hi Sue, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I’ve been in the events and catering world for over 30 years. I first started a company called Party In a Minute as a play on my abilities to create and plan parties, birthdays and gatherings throughout the years. As my passion business grew larger and more professional, my daughter suggested I rebrand my company name. Having lived in the Orange County area and involved in the Huntington Beach community, my name is recognized. Sue Prescott Events was born and my company has grown more successful.
Sue, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Sue Prescott Events is a full service event and wedding planner service. My services draw on my years of professional and personal experience. My husband and 3 children have lived in the Huntington Beach community for over 30 years. Over the years I’ve met many friends and acquaintances through my kids sports and school activities, as well as my volunteer and charity work. I’ve had an eye for design and love to incorporate homey yet elegant elements in my displays. Having a background in catering and a self-taught cook, I have a unique perspective to display food and menu plan.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The best and greatest way to grow you clientele is referrals. The event and wedding planning business can be large and saturated. Having a good reputation goes a long way. I’ve built a strong client base on the referrals of friends and colleagues. I’ve also started using social media more, in particular Instagram and TikTok. It is a great way to show your work to more people in a fun and creative way.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
March 2020 affected the events and hospitality world in ways that are still hard to talk about. During the pandemic, clients all over were forced with the difficult decision to post-pone or even cancel special occasions. Sue Prescott Events was also affected during this time and we had to find a way to pivot the business until social gatherings could come back. We started creating personalized graze platers and boxes for clients to order and bring home for their family. It was a way to still have a nice dinner with an element of elegance. I was also posting photos of my table designs and bar car during different holidays at home to share how to set up a party.
