We recently connected with Sue Kostyk and have shared our conversation below.
Sue, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
When my daughter was 5, she was diagnosed with Leukemia. Taking a deep dive in helping her get through the journey, I neglected myself which put me in very poor health. The treatment that saved her life also put her in jeopardy. I started researching natural ways to help both my daughter and me get healthy with out the use of pharmaceuticals. I found Integrative Health and it quickly became my passion. I started certifying 5 years ago and have certifications in Integrative Health, Functional Lab testing and High Performance Health which deals in longevity and age reversal. I left corporate America about 3 years ago and started my own practice and have since helped 100’s ranging from weight loss, hormone balancing, to healing auto-immune dis-ease and more.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
First and foremost I am a wife, mom, grandma and beloved child of God. I was a global event planner for a major consulting firm for most of my 36 year career in corporate America, until about 5 years ago when I found Integrative Health. I quickly learned that natural healing is very possible and such a needed craft in our world today. After finding the natural way to help my daughter and myself get healthy I felt the call to take this passion and share it. Too many people are being told that their symptoms are life long and there is nothing they can do.
Integrative Health is a process that combines Nutrition, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ancient Ayurvedic Medicine to get to the root cause of dis-ease and system disruptions. The human body is truly an amazing machine. There isn’t anything like it. It was meant to survive for a long time and will heal itself when given what it needs. It’s also brilliant and will shut down systems in order to survive – a literal “rob Peter to pay Paul” existence until Peter has no more to give. What happens more often than not, is we ignore the warning signs until we think its too late and we succumb to dis-ease or hormone disruption and then we throw a synthetic drug at it that our body doesn’t recognize so we need another drug to counteract those reactions and the cycle becomes very vicious.
Typically I use Functional Lab testing to determine excesses and deficiencies that determine the root cause of what is going on. From there, I provide protocols that are all natural (derived from plants and herbs) that either remove the excess or supplement the deficiencies and also work closely with them on the 8 pillars of health:
Diet, Exercise, Stress, Toxins, Rest, Emotions, Supplementation and Success Mindset, to get them back in state of homeostasis (good health). I work with my clients body, mind and spirit.
The key to true health is to have something that is sustainable for life. Fad diets and synthetic pharmaceuticals are not sustainable and typically just lead to failure.
I am not anti pharmaceuticals, I just want to be clear, my daughter needed them to save her life. There are instances, however, that they are not necessary and our society has taken “a pill for every ill” stance.
When people learn how to eat healthy, exercise, manage stress and get plenty of good sleep, the body works like a well oiled machine.
So far, 100% of my clients have lost weight, felt better, had more energy and healed from symptoms that they were told were something they would just have to live with. Most have had positive results within weeks of starting to work with me. When you understand how the body works and what it needs to thrive, there is no turning back.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I had to unlearn was that I am too old. I spent 35 years as a global event planner in corporate America. Once I found Integrative Health and started realizing where my passion truly was I had to fight the constant whisper in my ear that I was too old to start over. I was 57 when I started doing my first certification and I got a lot of push back from my family. The thing that kept me going was the very strong push that I felt God was literally shoving me in this direction and making it crystal clear that this is my calling – He even slammed the door on a couple of things to show me how important this is. A very dear family friend in England became a published author at the age of 80 and by 85 had published 5 novels. She was such an encouragement to me and a constant reminder that you are never too old and God doesn’t care about your age when He calls you up. It’s my job to respond, keep a deaf ear to the nay sayers, remember that age is just a number and other peoples opinion of me is not any of my business.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
You need a village, even a small one, of like minded people around you. I tried going it alone for a couple of years and its a lonely thing to be an entrepreneur. For me, starting over after corporate, being an entrepreneur and starting from scratch was a scary place of trial and error and mostly error. I found a couple groups, one in my field and another in a master mind setting where I could get feed back and help in the areas that I was lacking. The groups become like family and they are there to encourage, not compete. I highly recommend people to find groups, don’t try and go it alone. I wish I had known what to look for early on.
