We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sue Fearless a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sue, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I came up with my brand during a time where I was going through a lot of life challenges and trauma. I was yearning for a space where I can share things I was going through and also hear others stories in order to feel a sense of acceptance and to know that I was not alone. There were not many spaces like that at the time. Therefore, I started my organization, Fearless Women. With Fearless Women I began to host events for corporate companies, entertainers, celebrities and so much more. In addition, I started to build my tribe. Women from all walks of life would approach me and ask me how I did it. How did I turn my pain to purpose? How did I have the courage to leave my 9-5 job and pursue entrepreneurship? How was I able to survive life traumas? It was such a beautiful time. I started to hold health and wellness sessions, healing sessions and mindset coaching sessions. My purpose became to use what I learned and help others heal and take back control of their lives. And so the journey began. 7 years in now I feel so grateful that I was able to find purpose and meaning in what I have been through and was also grateful that I was able to tap into these gifts that I have been given. I now continue to serve my community with events that center around mindset coaching, healing, business, finances, entrepreneurship and personal/professional development. To me a Fearless Woman is a woman who does not allow fear to get in the way of pursing their passion.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As mentioned, I felt there was a void when it came to finding your safe space, your tribe. So I wanted to create that. In addition, I also wanted to share what I learned being in the Finance industry for over 18+ years and also sharing my expertise on being a business owner via Entrepreneurship & Business coaching. There are so many important things that school does not teach you. For example, how to manage your finances, how to start a business, leadership and personal/professional skills. It is my passion to share my education, experience and resources with my community. I currently am a Business, Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship, Personal/Professional development and Mindset Coach and I am very proud of the 100’s of clients we have been able to serve. We currently also have an Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy program in public schools in the tri-state area and are looking to expand all of our services country wide. I am also an author of two books, “Still I Thrive” and “The WorkPrenuer In Her”. I have a Blazer line which represents my experience being in the corporate world and not being seen or feeling comfortable in my own skin because corporate was very stuffy and not many folks looked like me. I have a candle line and self care packages that represent loving yourself. And lastly, I am a college Professor and I have a podcast called “The Fearless Show” that focuses on providing a platform for entrepreneurs, entertainers and creatives to share their story, advice and resources with our audience.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Prior to the pandemic we were holding all of our workshops and podcast episodes in person. When the COVID 19 pandemic hit we had to pivot and learn how to use social media and virtual platforms such as zoom in order to be able to stay connected with out community and audience and to be able to continue to provide the support that was so very much needed during this time. In addition, to pivoting our workshops and episodes, I also changed my career path and I no longer wanted to continue working for corporations that were not supporting my growth. I took workshops in different areas and became a student to the game. I am so appreciative that I took the time to learn during this very difficult time because once we moved back into the in person space I had so much new knowledge I wanted to teach and share and dully immersed myself into a service and purposeful journey.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
This a question I always get and my answer may seem like a long process but it is truly very simple. What many folks do not realize is that you can use your 9-5 to your advantage and fund your side hustle/business. You definitely need to create discipline because in the beginning you will have to stop spending money on some of the things you love and start saving more but I guarantee in the long run you will be so happy you did it and will receive all of the rewards. In addition, when you have a 9-5 you do not have much time for nothing else, but you do! Buy a journal, write down affirmations and also get a calendar! A calendar will help you get organized and keep yourself accountable. Once you create a plan, stick to it and make sure you work on your credit! Keep your credit score healthy and if it is not then obtain your report and see what areas you need to improve. Learn how to manage your finances, what affects your credit score. Very important! Next learn about the different business structures and start your very first LLC. Leverage your personal credit to get a business loan and use the funds to get your business started. Next identify your target market, your niche, your mission and elevator pitch. Create a brand by sharing your story, people connect yo a personal story. And lastly, NETWORK!
