We recently connected with Sue Begent and have shared our conversation below.
Sue, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
We are not here to “close the sale”. We are here to grow into the powerful version of ourselves that can HOLD the vision and potential for our clients until they themselves can fully claim it.
We’re here to invite our clients into becoming more. More successful in business, to attract more love of all kinds, become more healthy, feel more energized…to step into what they’re really capable of, in a way that feels deeply aligned with, and is in their highest and best interest.
We are all here, if we choose, (and it’s always a choice) to play our part in making the world an emotionally safer, more rewarding place in a way that contributes to healing our species, one person at a time.
And that requires a fundamentally different way to approach promotion.
We are way overdue for this change.
At the moment I stepped out of my Fortune 500 marketing career 9 years ago I’d have liked this idea and privately thought that will NEVER work!
Nice ideas – far too woo and soft compared to the masculine values of “just DO it.” Lovely for a meditation circle, with absolutely no legs in the real world.
Yet today this much needed shift is taking hold because many of us are READY! Because humans are tired of the old way. Those of us selling…We never liked the old way anyway. We just thought we had to.
Personally I’ve come to see things very differently – and to embrace and love “success” created from a whole new “feminine focused” mindset and way of doing things.
Actually a balanced fusion of masculine/feminine.
Let’s start with the more “feminine energy” attributes
When a coach/mentor/healer steps fully into what he/she has within them that is uniquely theirs to bring. When their inner being and energy become aligned and connected with their unique message and purpose, as they express it regularly and with passion, they become magnetic to those they are meant to help. It often makes sense of many of their earlier life experiences.
With their clients, they act as a catalyst – opening the people they help to a whole new level of what’s possible.
Yet this still needs the healthy “masculine energy” boundaries to provide a framework and “hold” it
That’s where I come in.
To be successful in promotion requires a clear resonant message that connects with a “ready NOW” buyer.
– Not one “on the plane”
– Not “circling the airport”
– But one who is “ready to land”
It should inspire, illuminate and CONNECT with that buyer
AS a heart centered entrepreneur, doing the work to connect with this within you will be some of the most important work you will ever do in yuor business.
It’s the key to having everything else work
In my experience it’s also the moment that over-work stops. Instead of finding “ever more people to promote to” (which is usually what we think the problem is before we get our message right). One social platform can bring us all the clients we need. Yes, millions of dollars if you choose.
Choice is the operative word.
Choosing to be self employed and self promote is always a personal growth journey. We have to GROW into this.
The Universe never wastes anything.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a message alchemist and a soul business strategist. I help spiritually-led women entrepreneurs own their uniqueness, attract ready-now buyers, and flourish online — even in a saturated market.
I’m also probably the only one who also plays the tuba…. (or used to!)
With a multi- year background in Fortune 500 marketing (25 in all), and years as an energy healer, I bridge the worlds of strategy and soul to help my clients grow a business in a way that feels aligned, abundant, and sustainable.
If someone had told me, back in the day… (as I embarked on training as a nurse in London, UK – my native country) that I’d live for multiple decades on 3 different continents, have a lucrative international career, and end up working for myself…I’d have thought they had the wrong person, but so it is for most of us at any age. We simply don’t see what’s possible, or what life might ask of us, or how and in what way we may blossom.
In some ways that’s probably a good thing!
I followed a “sensible” career. Nursing – gastroenterology, oncology, open heart surgery…. Then Pharmaceutical sales & Pharma marketing in Australia.
My success there led to a series of global positions as a director working on the launch marketing of some of the most successful drugs ever to be released.
As the same time however, I started to “wake up”. first as a student of energy medicine, then a reiki practitioner, and many modalities since.
My day job and my spiritual and personal growth were going in completely different directions until finally – even though I could not see how on earth I’d replace my multi 6 figure income, I left never to return.
The last nine years since leaving, have been some of the hardest, most challenging and illuminating and definitely the most rewarding of my career.
I became a women’s coach almost immediately. As I grew into this new career, so did my ability to help my clients. I invested in myself like never before.
Well over $100,000 at this point and counting.
And I started to grow on the inside in a way I hadn’t for years.
Today, I know myself way better than I ever have before.
I’ve shed many of my demons
I know OWN my brilliance – my talents, abilities, the wisdom that my unique life and abilities have afforded me, and I encourage, guide and mentor other women to do the same.
It is deeply rewarding work.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I started my career as a coach, I subscribed to “Just Do It”. “Make It Happen” and the power of focus, hard work and sheer determination as the most needed ingredients when it came to promoting my business and getting clients.
These things were part of my corporate world and had served me well in terms of results – even if they had come at a high personal cost.
Yet they didn’t work as I’d hoped when it came to my coaching business.
As a woman, like many of us, I was socialized to be nice, lady-like, to not push myself forward. To never be the first voice in the room, and, at times, to feel invisible, even if my internal narrative encouraged me otherwise.
In addition, the big and little traumas that had programmed my nervous system to live small, want to please, and feel massively unsafe when people weren’t happy or criticized me, (and had always played havoc with my boundaries and my ability to show up centered and personally powerful). they acted like brakes too.
My family consciously – and unconsciously – had taught me all they knew, what had been passed to them down the generations. And not all of that was helpful (some of it was destructive – as it had been for them also).
There was a lot to undo – and just PUSHING simply didn’t cut it.
I had to learn to allow….Finally …the real secret…
To recognize, honor – listen to my feelings – my body was always communicating with me, even when I wasn’t paying attention or was actively pushing down what it had to say.
I had to learn to allow things to take their own time…and not be in such a rush.
Easing into a new time frame wasn’t at all easy. It was a lot of reporgramming of my nervous system, and it took work
Yet as I did it, I slowly recognized the incredible gifts that lay in the multi-layered, massive healing journey that was slowly revealing itself to me
And I started to feel grateful
I started to realize that if things were slower than I hoped – then I had some more things to learn
To understand the power of flow, of allowing, of honoring the FEMININE in business
To know that when you’re a heart-centered, self-employed entrepreneur – your business is a direct reflection of the energy you’re carrying.
It’s a direct reflection of us.
Ad that’s a gift.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Back in the day, in the late 80s, when I had no idea of the traumas that had shaped me (somewhere deep I was programmed with the conflicting idea that everything was my fault and a conflicting anger that it wasn’t that I couldn’t acknowledge) ..I took myself on an epic 6 month solo adventure.
Trying what most of us do before we become conscious….to leave my hidden trauma behind.
I left London with a backpack that was almost bigger than me, caught the train, then the ferry, and spent 3 months traveling overland to China and Hong Kong.
It was the time of the Iron Curtain. Before the Tiananmen square massacre. Well before Hong Kong was restored to China.
And it was a micro-epic journey. Many adventures frozen in a time that no longer exists.
There are many stories I could tell from that time, but here’s just one.
I arrived by train to Xian in China – city of the Terracotta Army. China was a different country back then.
The station was a sea of hundreds and hundreds of Chinese people wearing the same Mao suit. The streets full of black standard issue bicycles..a car was a rare sight. No one – literally no-one – spoke English. Westerners were a rarity and we attracted fascinated crowds of hundreds wherever we went.
It could take up to a week to get a ticket out of anywhere, so the first thing I did was queue up for a booking. Queuing could take a minimum of a day.
After half a day I reached the ticket window. I pushed the piece of paper on which I’d written in Chinese characters what I wanted.
A few seconds later a brief, sharp stream of guttural Chinese greeted me and the ticked window slammed shut.
Slightly confounded, I just stood there – uncertain but determined. Whatever happened next I was getting a ticket. I wasn’t queueing up for another half day
The ticket master kept opening and shutting the ticket window – slamming it down every time it was still me looking back
Eventually the extensive crowd behind me got restless and there started to be shouts. People started shoving me, yelling and waving wads of money over my head.
Without even really thinking about it, I thought “oh no”. Im getting a ticket come hell or high water! I started grabbing the wads of money, throwing it backwards, the notes floating like confetti over multiple people’s heads.
Mayhem erupted, But regardless there I was, and I wasnt moving.
Finally, from the literally thousands of Chinese people in Xian station that day, one person who spoke English appeared.
“there isn’t a ticket on the day that you want it, but you can go the next day…”
and so it was…
