We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sudnat Studios. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sudnat below.
Alright, Sudnat thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
We definitely took a risk when starting our business- we started planning events on the tail end of Covid, and the chaos of the world slowly trying opening up. We thought it would be hard to bring people out of their caves after such a scary time in our history, but we were shocked by the outpouring of love and support from our local communities! So many people were eager to support local and shop in-person again, and having fresh, open air made for a safer environment for our community to come together! We’re so thankful for the people that made shopping local and handmade a priority. We wouldn’t be here without you!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Our names are Kandus and Natalie, and we’re both Atlanta-native Artists! We started our business after years of vending other events. We really enjoyed it, but after Covid we saw vendor fees steadily rising and noticed many coordinators were not creators or vendors themselves. Some of these fees go so high that there’s no way someone could make their money back in just one day! We felt that these raising rates were taking advantage of small businesses and we wanted to create a community for creators that had affordable fees, cared about our patrons AND our vendors, and supported other small businesses and events along the way. We pride ourselves on the fact that we’ve got years of vending experience and as we’re coming upon our 1 year of hosting events in February, our fees are still some of the cheapest we’ve seen. We also promote other events and artists as well because at the end of the day, we’re doing this for the artists and we want everyone to be successful. We are also over the moon to say that we will be partnering with 4 different breweries this year to host art markets during their anniversary parties, which is HUGE! Looking back, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come and the amount of artists that are in our corner and that have thanked us for what we’re doing.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal from the beginning is to eventually have a space for our community to gather and shop, eat, and drink local! We want to bring the arts to as many people as possible and having a central hub would make that dream so much easier. Right now we work with businesses from Lake Lanier down to Hapeville, so finding a home base to settle into would help us establish an area for our community to grow!

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
STOP SUPPORTING BIG BOX COMPANIES! Or at the very least, search local as your first attempt, then search online for handmade goods (Etsy etc.) and THEN turn to an Amazon or Target order. So many of these big corporations steal ideas from small businesses and reproduce it using unethical labor and never compensate the original artists. Sure, that faux leather, plastic, or cheaper mass-produced item may be cute, but its cheaply constructed and filled with plastics, and won’t last you nearly as long as a handmade, quality good! Ordering from a small business can help feed someone in your community and make their dream come true! Don’t make the rich richer; support your local communities that want to support YOU!
