We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Suchi Gupta a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Suchi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I grew up in a cozy little town in the foothills of the Himalayas in India. It is commonly called the Manchester of India because of the sheer number of entrepreneurs originating from that city. But it was surprising that hardly any women got jobs, let alone started businesses.
Early into my teens, I realized I was not meant to get into the mold. It would chain me down, and the struggle to create my own identity would be harder. The first risk I took was to leave that city to find more venues to educate and grow.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been fascinated with typography and good design. When I graduated with a bachelor’s in fine arts, I couldn’t get a job. This was the early 2000’s and I realized I had to add digital capabilities to my design capabilities. That’s what got me into Visual Communication design. After graduating as a graphic designer in 2008 and completing a couple of client projects, I set up my agency out of my garage because my kids were too young. I had very little work experience at that point, but with family commitments, the option was to take a break or go solo and make something out of it.
Fast forward 13 years, Pure Design Solution is a full-service digital marketing agency.
We offer strategies and solutions that connect online marketing and sales channels to enable growth. As an outsourced marketing partner, we develop ecosystems using MarTech channels, leveraging analytics, automation, and creativity.
Our core services include strategy and brand activation, technology enablement, and digital campaigns.
We are trying to solve problems for our clients – Transparency and measurability continue to be barriers in a Client-Agency model. For the past 13 years, we have strived to remove them.
We are most proud of our work in helping over 50 start-ups and small business owners grow from zero revenue to multi-million dollar companies. Establishing and nurturing long-term relationships has been the most rewarding part of our work.
We’ve also worked with more than a dozen women-owned and minority-owned businesses to create strong digital presences and new sales verticals. We call ourselves small business crusaders and are always there looking out for our clients.

Have you ever had to pivot?
After six years as a graphic design studio servicing large corporations, we suddenly had to transform into a full-service digital marketing agency.
Our industry experienced a change around 2015 when digital gained more traction than conventional print media. Our projects dried up, and clients wanted more user-friendly solutions online than physically printed ones. To stay relevant, we had to pivot quickly. From finding new resources to upskilling the current team, we underwent a big change from 2016 to 2018.
Looking back, those years were both the most challenging and the most rewarding in terms of learning for me. I not only reshaped the agency to meet emerging demands but also emphasized the importance of team building over immediate tasks, established enduring processes and shifted focus towards high-impact projects rather than one-time gigs.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What has helped build my reputation has been authenticity and transparency in everything we do for our clients.
If you watch out for your clients, try to be by their side when they need you, and be honest, even if it’s tough at times. You can build a priceless circle of trust. That’s been at the heart of PDS. We have always kept our clients’ best interests at the center of everything. Everything is on paper, shared with them, and explained so that they are not taken by surprise.
We have a client retention rate of more than 80% for a minimum 5-year service cycle.
