We recently connected with Stormy C. Washington and have shared our conversation below.
Stormy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Since I was in high school family and friends would often ask me to record their voicemail messages because they “liked my voice”. Upon graduating from high school, I pursued and received a degree in Radio/TV/Film from the University of Oklahoma. My favorite classes were the audio production courses. I did not really begin to appreciate my voice/gift until I began working at Walt Disney World as a P.R. Manager. Blind auditions were held for employees (known as Cast Members) to provide voice overs for various eLearning series. The series were online trainings required for employees working in specific lines of business. To my surprise I was selected to provide the voiceovers for the Disney Cruise Line, Business Etiquette, and Risk Management online training.
Fast forward to 2015, my Pastor asked me to provide the voiceovers for the weekly church announcements at Agape Perfecting Praise & Worship Center here in Orlando. This was amazing to me because my husband, Herb, and I were new members. I had not shared my secret desire to provide the voiceovers for the announcements with anyone. So, the fact that she asked me was amazing and I took that as a positive sign. It was then that I remembered how much I enjoyed providing voiceovers and reflected on my past experiences. This prompted me to start Virtuous Voice Productions, LLC. Shortly after that, one of my good friends was doing some editing work for a local Pastor who needed a radio promo for his broadcast. She recommended me, so I sent him a demo. I landed the job and as a result, have worked for him on numerous projects including providing the voice for the sample/summary of his audio book on Audible, “Prayer Is A Must”.
My greatest joy comes from serving others, and problem-solving. Providing services that help individuals, businesses and organizations tell their story and inform their target audiences about their projects, services and events makes my heart smile. An added bonus is the fact that I actually get paid to do something that I enjoy.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a voice actor, also known as a voice-over artist. Services I provide include narration, eLearning, event hosting, commercials for radio and tv, public service announcements and copywriting.
My journey began in my hometown of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It was there that the foundation for everything that I would ever do, attempt to do, or accomplish was established. I live by the simple philosophy of treating others the way I desire to be treated.
My faith and integrity are the core of everything I do. Both allow me to persevere and step out of my comfort zone, even when it makes me uncomfortable. I know if I pray for direction and my intentions are pure, the results will be favorable.
My greatest joy comes from serving others, and problem-solving. I value my faith, family, relationships, loyalty, and education. I earned a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma. I have been blessed to have a variety of positions at some of the most prestigious institutions, organizations, and corporations, in Oklahoma, and Florida. I am former Miss Black Oklahoma University, Miss Black Oklahoma, and Miss Black Orlando, and most recently was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni of the University of Oklahoma Gaylord College of Journalism. I now know that each position/title and experience was preparing me for what was to come.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I help individuals, organizations, and companies tell their stories, create awareness of their brands, and promote their products.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
So far, it’s been word of mouth.
