We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stone, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Over the last year and a half my band Prtty Ridiculous has been my baby. We’ve carved out a niche we like to call Nightmare Pop. It’s Industrial Dance Beats, Deep Cinematic Synths, and the heaviest f*cking Guitars. I like to say it sounds like Billie Eilish and Nine Inch Nails stole your car together. Artists search thier whole lives for “a sound”. I know I’ve found mine. My team means a lot to me. I often find myself thanking a vague higher power for throwing these brilliant people into my life. I’m very thankful for my behind-the-scenes crew Shelby, Martha, and Alex! I have been extremely fortunate to work with some fantastic creatives too; Namely my Creative Director Luis Zavaleta, and my Engineer/Producer Randy Belculfine. Luis and I have been toiling over all of the visual minutiae, music videos, artwork etc. since day one (oddly enough, Luis actually made my very first music video when I was in a band 6 years ago!). Likewise, Randy and I adapted our partnership/workflow from our previous stint (rather short-lived, but always in our back pocket) as a production duo known as BAD NETWORK. Everything you’re hearing is Randy and I (with rare exceptions), everything you’re seeing is Luis and I. I’m extremely proud of the songs we’ve dropped and the brand we’ve built.
Stone, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey, My name is Stone! I am an Artist/Producer fronting the band Prtty Ridiculous. I’ve been a working guitar player my whole professional career, and have just recently stepped into a role as a Composer/Sound Designer for Movie Trailers. Ive been a lifelong musician with 20 years of guitar playing experience under my belt. I fronted a rock band, Lithic, while in college and had the time of my life burnin’ the underground Boston rock scene. Since my LA move I’ve made Prtty Ridiculous my chief objective. Through the Prtty Ridiculous lens i can create music and art that is entirely my own. I strive to create with intention while being a conduit for the ridiculous. The weird cacophony of dance grooves and Low riffs I hear in my head never cease to get a laugh out of me; bringing those ideas to life has become my life mission. My music gives me purpose and I’m proud to say I can hang my hat on all of it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I dont like to get bogged down by the “meaning” behind creative decisions too early into the process. I find that getting the work done, and looking back on the process as a whole, leads to what I wanted in the beginning anyway. Execution is the only goal; if I can keep you entertained I’ve done my job. Knowing that fans are digging the music and respect my vision is the gift that keeps on giving.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to Keep it Ridiculous. Life is too short to follow the rules.
