We were lucky to catch up with Stiz Santosa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stiz, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? The world needs to hear more realistic, actionable stories about this critical part of the business building journey. Tell us your scaling up story – bring us along so we can understand what it was like making the decisions you had, implementing the strategies/tactics etc.
People buy from people they like. How do you get people to like you? Be honest, be truthful, be authentic and be consistent. And since we’re being honest here, it takes about 1 yes’ out of 20 no’s… 2 out of 20 if you’re good. But if you keep showing up as your authentic self, people will sense that and they’ll want to know what you have to offer.
Also, know EVERYTHING about your product. And even if you don’t, never answer with an, “I don’t know.” Always circle back with them once you find out. It goes back to having your customer trust you. They trust you will get back to them with an answer and that you’re the person to rely on.

Stiz, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I never had any intention of becoming a business owner. I grew up in an immigrant household where a full-time job with health insurance and a pension was the end goal. Having the luxury of being a first generation American, I saw there was opportunity to step out of that particular mold. I got into a lot of trouble growing up and went to jail three times because of my lack of self love and self worth due to a traumatic childhood experience. As I got older and numerous, well-needed therapy sessions later, I healed myself and wanted to turn my experiences into a lesson in order to help people achieve their fullest potential.
I scaled in the health & wellness business first becoming a Personal Trainer, then building my supplement business and now I have people working under me and it’s scaling! I train my coaches one on one, making sure they know the ins and outs of the products and the business. This took years of being in the business. Being hands on, detail oriented, and communicative is key. You need to be the person that people can count on.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I’m pretty sure 99% of us business owners own and use a smart phone and it’s called “smart” for a reason. In your hand, you have a portable machine that allows you to type events in your calendar that reminds you to follow up with a client, create spreadsheets or word documents to give out to your clients, email/message them, and many other helpful tools. Use it!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I decided not to open a brick and mortar, but to scale my supplemental business online because it was cheaper & faster to start and is extremely low risk. It costs less than $100 and I could instantly make money without any permits and rental costs. Aside from that, my personal training certification and all the other certifications that come with it cost me a few thousand dollars, not including renewal fees. If you’re interested in starting your own business for less than $100, you can always email or DM me for more information. I’d love to see if you’d be a good fit.
