We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stevo’n McGill. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stevo’n below.
Hi Stevo’n, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I am a newly published author. In January of this year, I completed & published my first children’s book Evander Adventures. A colorful story that offers a positive message and help young readers to develop an “ I CAN” mindset.
I was inspired to write this soon-to-be series in honor of the obstacles I surpassed throughout my childhood, in hopes to inspire the youth to believe in themselves and to overcome to uncertain obstacles of life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road was not the easiest, I actually wrote majority of the book in 2017 and got discouraged in the product. After procrastinating for years, when I relocated back to Miami from Atlanta I decided to take a leap of faith and seek publication.
At times I over looked the impact of the book and also worried about the success of the book which made me hesitant. I feel like that time of self doubt is a story to tell with in its self. We are our biggest critic and often the biggest downfall to our greatness.
I’ve worked to developed a positive mindset and act on the things that I manifest. All in good faith that at the o can help change ones perspective to be great.
I look at these challenges as a test for an evolving man of GOD in which I love to pour back in to the community.
My book series is my testimony that I believe our youth and society can benefit from.

Stevo’n, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Not only am I an author but the creator of TopShelf Performance. Founded in 2013 by myself & my cousin TJ Brown (@topshelf_tj). TopShelf Performance is an innovative training company for athletes. I specialize in helping athletes significantly improve their overall strength, speed and conditioning. My training methods are founded on testing, program writing, data entry and providing nutritional advice to each client’s goals. I graduated from Clark Atlanta University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. My grind in the process of developing my skills in football evolved in to an uncharted passion for the art of strength and conditioning. As a Coach I have assisted in multiple 100lb weight loss journeys, mentored and developed High School, Ncaa division 1 and Professional Athletes. I offer personal, group & sports performance training in the South Florida Area.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
The co- founder of my business is my cousin and we’ve had each others back since toddlers. We’ve challenged each other in the game of football to be better players and competitors from youth ball all the way to the collegiate level.
Through our challenges of junior college being in California by way of Florida our mental integrity was challenged. In the process of working to earn a scholarship from a university we developed the mindset to not let our circumstances define us and to take every obstacle personal. It was too easy to give up but we made the choice that these challenges would fuel us to be great and get us to the next level.
We earned our scholarship but fell short in our NFL dreams . Again our mental integrity being challenged but we turned our mantra “ This Sh*t Personal” in to TopShelf Performance as we segmented in to coaching/training.
We never imagined building a brand that would change so many lives.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think would help this build our reputation was the passion and time we took into our craft. Through the years we learn to develop skills that our players can take with them not only on the playing field but also in the game of life. Most of the time these kids just need someone to talk to more so than a coach that only wants them for their attributes. Building a relationship with them and their families is what sets us apart from other training companies. The love for their mental well being played a huge part in writing Evanders Adventures. The youth is our future leaders and their positivity can change the world
